Wicked: The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of the West (Novel)
|
This is a new musical based on Gregory Maguire's novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of The West," a dark, and pleasantly shocking alternate version of the events described in L. Frank Baum's orginal novel. The musical and the book written by Gregory Maguire are different. The producers of the musical only used the section of the book where Elphaba and Glinda met each other at school as the basis of their friendship. Many of the characters in the musical are in the book, but the situations and outcomes are different. The music has a strong 80s pop feel to it.
Wicked is a new musical that is receiving a great deal of attention. Using a song from Wicked as an audition piece is not advisable at this time, especially while it is still playing on Broadway. You will most certainly be compared with the professionals currently performing the roles.
Wicked Audition Preparation Suggestions
Elphaba & Glinda sing together (in harmony!) often so how different voices blend together may influence casting decisions.
Most audition calls for Wicked specify that you should audition with a non-musical theatre piece. An older (60s - 80s) pop selection is recommended. |
