Based on a Story by Robert Thoeren
Based on the film "Some Like It Hot," SUGAR chronicles the zany lives of two musicians, of the prohibition era, who witness a gang slaying. Forced to disguise themselves as women, they join an all-female orchestra, and the games begin! This show is both outrageous and touching.
Audition Suggestions for Sugar
This is a very comedic musical - audition pieces should demonstrate comic ability. |
-
-
- Joe / "Josephine" (saxophone player)
- an out of work musician - plans to make Sugar fall in love with him. Attractive, smooth, something of an operator.
- Jerry / "Daphne" (bass player)
- an out of work musician & Joe's buddy. The comic sidekick, more of a character type than Joe. Really enjoys the disguise after a while.
- Sugar Kane (Late Teen - early 30s)
- gorgeous blonde who is the featured singer in the all-girl band - plans to find a millionaire in Florida and get married; hiding a drinking problem. Vulnerable, sexy, appealing, funny.
-
-
- Bienstock
- The show's manager
- Spats Palazzo
- The gang kingpin chasing Joe & Jerry. No songs, but strong rhythm needed for a capella tap dances.
- Dude & Trixie
- Spats' assistant and moll. lQs of eggplants. Tap with Spats.
- Knuckles Norton
First Poker Player
Knuckles' Gang
- Osgood Fielding, Jr. (30s - 40s)
- a millionaire who has fallen in love with "Daphne". Terrific comic role, two numbers. Falls for "Daphne."
- "Chicago" Singers
-
- Sweet Sue (25+)
- The leader of the band, tough, strong singer.
- (Her) Society Syncopaters (Piano, Drums, Bass, Trumpets, Trombones, Saxophones)
-
- Spat's Gang, Cabdriver
Olga,
Sunbathers, Train Conductor, Bellboy
