Based on the play Parfumerie and the film "The Shop Around the Corner".
1930s, Europe. Maraczek, the store owner, and Georg, Ilona, Kodaly, Sipos, and Amalia, his clerks, run a perfumerie during the busy Christmas season. Amalia and Georg are "Lonely Hearts" penpals, but don't know each other's identity since no names have been exchanged. Georg eventually realizes who she is but struggles with how to tell her.
The score is extremely long. Performers must learn a great deal of music.
This musical was the inspiration for the Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan Film "You've Got Mail".
