Audition Preparation Suggestions for
Man of La Mancha
Auditions for previous professional productions have asked for:
* 1-2 minute contemporary monologue
* 16-24 bars of music theatre song |
- Don Quixote/Cervantes (Baritone)
- Plays both a viorous nobleman-poet and an old and eccentric knight-errant. "Don Quixote must be optimistic. He is like a big kid. At auditions, so many men played him like some noble, brave medieval knight you'd hear of in a round table story. He is chivalrous, but he is not macho. He is eloquent, but he is silly. Too many men end up sounding creepy when they do some of his long monologues. Quixote is full of smiles, enthusiasm, and optimism."
- Sancho/The Man Servant (Tenor, comic role)
- Don Quixote's loveable servant
- Innkeeper/Governor (Baritone)
- Padre (Tenor)
- Dr. Carrasco/The Duke (Baritone)
- Aldonza (legit soprano)
- rough-and-tumble bar wench who finds her inner-beauty
- Antonia (Soprano)
- pretends to be concerned for her uncle
- Housekeeper (Mezzo)
- The Barber (Tenor)
- Anselmo
- Chorus
