Based on Robert Louis Stevenson's Jekyll & Hyde.

Through his work Dr. Henry Jekyll encounters many troubled patients with afflictions beyond the physical, in particular he is plagued by one inmate of the hospital who has lost his mind, his own father. Because of this, Jekyll begins a series of experiments to try to seperate the good and evil in a man's soul. Unfortunately his colleagues and superiors do not support his theories and refuse to agree to his tests, so Jekyll decides to continue on his own, without support.

At the same time, Dr Jekyll has become engaged to Emma Carew, a young lady of society with a strong will. Because of his obsession with his tests, Henry arrives late for his and Emma's engagement party, where the men and women of society disagree with Emma's match. When Henry finally arrives Emma ensures him that they will be together through all his trials. Emma's father, Danvers, still is critical of the match.... continue reading.

Audition Preparation Suggestions for Jekyll & Hyde

The music has a "adult contemporary" style similar to that of Les Miserables. The show is mostly sung-through and there is relatively little dialoge - very strong singers with a classical sound are required.

Jekyll & Hyde can be played by the same performer or two separate performers depending on the production.

Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Edward Hyde (High Baritone)
Henry is obsessed with his father's comatose condition, and hopes to heal those with psychological conditions by administering drugs that separate the good from evil. Mr. Hyde is a manifestation of all Jekyll's evil thoughts & desires.
John Utterson
Jekyll's friend and lawyer, includes many scenes with Jekyll
Emma Carew (Soprano)
Henry's fiancée - very understanding and very much in love
Sir Danvers Carew
Emma's father
Simon Stride
rival of Jekyll for the hand of Emam

Lucy Harris (Mezzo belt)
a burlesque performer - treated like a prostitute - an abused young woman who finds hope in true love
Nellie
a coarse woman, reveling in her 'red light' profession
Lady Beaconsfield
high society woman, insincere and hypocritical; murdered
Bishop
insincere and hypocritical; murdered
General Glossop
