Company is the story of Bobby, a man who remains the only single male in his social circle. Over the course of the show, his friends attempt to convince him it's time to settle down. This show takes a realistic yet comical look at the ups and downs of married life.
This is an ensemble cast show. All characters, with the exception of Robert, double as part of the company. There are no chorus roles.
April's speech in act 1 is a good choice for a comedic monologue that shows character.
Audition Preparation Suggestions for Company
As with most Sondheim works, the music is difficult and requires trained singers. Only Kathy must have ballet dance training, but all performers must soft-shoe in one production number.
April and Marta have precise, rapid diction numbers. Displaying the ability to handle very quick lyrics will be an asset.
Due to the many ensemble numbers, the ability to hold your part while others are singing different vocal lines is extremely important. |
