Based on John Druten's play I Am A Camera. I Am A Camera, in turn, was based on the novel The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood.
Germany in the 1920's. A young American writer moves to Berlin, only to fall in love with a singer at the sleazy "Kit Kat Club". He weaves himself into a terrible web of illegal smuggling and his new girlfriend gets pregnant. On the eve of the Third Reich, Clifford decides to flee Germany and return to America, but Sally refuses to join him and aborts their baby. Sadly Clifford returns to America alone, his experiences becoming the inspiration for a new book. His memories appear like ghosts to surround the train.
