Big, based on the movie starring Tom Hanks, is the story of twelve-year-old Josh, who is totally sick of being a kid. While at a carnival, Josh encounters a very strange "Zoltar" machine that claims to grant wishes. Since he's got nothing to lose, Josh wishes to be "big". When he awakes the next morning, he finds himself in the body of a 25-year-old man.
With the help of his friend Billy, Josh realizes he can't let his mom and the kids at school see him like this, so he has no choice but to find a job and get an apartment. He turns out to be a whiz at the toy company, and soon rises to the top. He even has a girlfriend. Josh soon becomes homesick though, and goes back to the Zoltar machine to wish to be a kid again.
Audition Preparation Suggestions for Big
The music in Big is fairly simple to learn and sing. It is pop-inspired.
If you are a young boy, keep in mind that although Josh is the main character, Billy is a much more substantial role since he is a child throughout the show. Young Josh only appears at the beginning and at the end. |
