Musical theatre has always reflected the trends of popular music. Particularly in recent years, rock has found a place on the theatrical stage.

There is a tendency to lump all contemporary musical theatre that has been influenced by popular music into the "rock" category - this has not been done here. The following musicals have rock-inspired scores, as characterized by traditional rock instruments (electric guitar, an electric bass guitar, a drum kit, and sometimes a piano or keyboard) and rock-style vocals.
