Assignment #2: Audition Watch List Print E-mail

Your Assignment: Build An Audition Watch List

We have all gone through the agony of realizing that we have lost out on an opportunity to perform because, for whatever reason, we missed the audition notice. I have also noticed that with community theatre in particular, it is really easy to get into a "performance rut" - performing with the same two or three groups year after year.

Your second assignment is to create a "watch list" for audition notices. Basically this is a place to record all the performance groups in your area that produce shows on a regular basis. Keep track of:

Name of Group - Pretty self explanatory, but also include the names of any key people within the group

Location - Where the group rehearses & performs. This is important to keep handy for scheduling purposes.

Performance Schedule - Most groups tend to produce their shows at regular intervals and at certain times of year. Keeping track of this will help you keep your eye out for audition notices.

Contact Info - Who you should contact for questions and other info such as website, e-mail, phone numbers.

Audition Announcements - Where/when/how are audition announcements usually made?

If you don't have many groups to put on your list, then this is a perfect time to do a little research! Get onto google, look in the newspaper, use lots of different resources to help you expand your opportunities.

If you are looking for performance opportunities of different types, you may wish to create a separate list for each.

Download our template (word format) to help you get started! Then discuss this assignment in our forum.

I printed out the schedule of one troupe near me and hung it up in my closet with all my scripts & sheet music. Now, everytime I go to see if there's a new production I can go ahead and find the music and/or script for the show as soon as I know the production.
