Healthy Habit: Drink Water PDF Print E-mail

Our Club's first Healthy Habit is to drink enough water!

We all know that we should drink more water, and most of us know the many reasons why, but that doesn't mean we actually do it. For us performers, water intake is even more important for our voices, bodies, skin, and energy level. Drinking enough water can also help us maintain a healthy weight, which some of us might need a little help with right after the holidays. :)

Tips For Getting Enough Water

In order for the water to benefit our bodies, we need to drink regularly over the course of the day. Carrying a water bottle with you makes a lot of sense, and some studies have actually shown that a straw makes it easier for us to increase our water intake (maybe because it is less work?).

If you measure out the amount of water you should be consuming at the beginning of each day, you can see how much you are actually drinking.

The best way to make sure you are getting your water is to make it part of your routine - that's why this is called a "healthy habit". Match up drinking water with things you already do in the course of your day - mealtimes, exercising, watching tv, etc.

I have to admit that I do not drink enough water at all. This is really having a bad effect on my skin and my energy level. I also find that I get bloated alot if I drink or eat to fast. The one thing that I have a problem with at the moment, is that while trying to loose weight and build up my excercise, my body is not hungry when it should be but hungry when it shouldn't be. So what can I do...should I get a eating routine? Is there any advise that someone could offer to help me loose weight - but still eat healthily? thanx alot! xxx

drinking hot water is really great too! it rerally helps your digestion and is comforting without all those horrible chemicals you get in hot drinks liek tea and coffee

Hot water is great for me because when I'm at home I'm always freezing and want to drink something warm (I am going to put the kettle on right now). Kez, a good way to drink a lot of water is to drink a glass before beginning any snack, meal, or "handful" I don't know about you, but I eat about 8 times a day (I eat five snack/meals and usually I have a few carrots or grapes throughout the day) so I get my water intake.

A note on hot water: Don't put lemon in your hot water if you're drinking instead of water. The lemon is so acidic the water you are drinking goes to even out the acid from the lemon.

My skin always looks SO much better when I have been drinking water. I should try drinking more hot water!

The problem I have whenever I start drinking more water is I have to pee after every class at school!

I've been taking three bottles of water with me to class, and making myself finish them before I get home and practice singing. I am always eager to begin practice and don't want to have to wait, so it helps me drink enough water. ^^
