Audition Monologues For Children (Kids)

Choosing a monologue for a child is the same in most respects as choosing one for an adult.

  • The child must fully understand the monologue.
  • The monologue should be appropriate to their age and the role that it comes from should be a role that they could conceivably play.
  • For especially younger children, the monologues generally do not need to be as long as those for adults. A minute-long monologue should be long enough for most purposes.
  • Children do not need the extensive monologue repertoire that adults require. One comedic and one dramatic are enough to cover most auditions.

  • For very young children, a simple story or narrative poem is perfectly appropriate to use as a monologue.

Look for more monologues in our list of shows that have roles for children.
