I Owned with On My Own!

Right, so tonight was my Honors Choir concert where I sang "On My Own" from Les Mis. The scary part was, I was going first! Because they were going in alphabetic order by last name, so that put me first.
I was so freaked out. Before I went on, I seriously thought I might get sick from nervousness, but I was basically okay. When I thought about how I was going to get it over and done with first thing, then I felt better.
So I went on and I did the song... and I must say, I think I did really well! I wasn't as loud as I could have been (and I was a little shaky), but that was probably because I was nervous so I wasn't breathing as easily as normal. But I put in all the emotion I could, and I got so into it towards the end that I actually almost cried. Seriously. But then I was fine.
I got a little freaked out at one point because my accompanist and I got a little out of sync, and it threw me off a little, but I recovered fairly quickly. Through the whole song, I was able to keep from freaking out really badly by watching my Choir director while he stood in the aisle at the back of the room, taping the concert. He just kept smiling and gave me a thumbs up whenever something came out sounding really good, which made me feel a lot better.
In Summary:
1. Voice lessons paid off. A LOT.
2. I need to control the whole "shaky-nervous-I-can't-breathe" thing.
3. On My Own works pretty well for me overall.
Also, I would like to thank Jessica x0 for giving me the tip to keep my hands from sweating. It worked out really well. |
