woahhh i think im auditioning for Spider-Man
Written by Mollyyyy

Ok the audition calls for a 16-20 year old girl to play Mary Jane. I'm 16! haha

So my dad might taking me up to NYC for the auditions! I'm freaking out!

What should I wear!? It doesn't say we're dancing but I would presume we would be.

What should I sing?? We have to prepare 16 bars of a song, with a pop-rock style and bring sheet music. MTA lists There Are Worse Things I Could Do as an option, but I played Rizzo this year so they might think I'm just taking the easy way. Plus its overdone. But I know it well. Would that be a completely bad choice? What should I sing?

Oh and a resume if we have one. That should be interesting...

I've never done this before.

Honestly, this is mostly for experience. I highly doubt I will get the part, I just want to see how an audition is. A real audition. But I also don't want to make an idiot of myself.

HELP!!!

Definitely sing "There Are Worse Things I Could Do". Remember: YOU're the one auditioning, not the song.

As for what to wear, since you do not know whether or not you will be dancing, assume that you are. If you want to wear dance shoes, make sure that they're still comfortable for you to stand around in them for a while. If not, then just pick the best pair of shoes you can dance in. I usually wear something that suggests the kind of character-- no necessarily dressing the part, but not just dressing as myself.

Get a picture & resume. Make sure the resume is easy to read your credits quickly. Make sure the resume is the exact same size as the photo - 8x10. Pick out your best 16 bars from "There Are Worse Things..." that give you a good ending. If it works out that you need to sing 4 or 5 extra bars to put an ending on the song, it will be OK. (That doesn't mean add an extra verse). Wear a nice comfortable dress that you can change out of quickly into dance clothes and shoes if they ask you to dance. Look like your age, don't try to look too sexy. Make sure your photo looks like you. Be prepared to wait all day. Get there early to sign up on a list. I mean really early. Bring food and water to snack on. Bring something to read. There may be hundreds of other girls there. Smile and be nice to everyone - especially the folks who are working the audition. Take a minute with the pianist and point out everything about your song (tempo etc). Knock them dead with your singing and remember to thank the piano player on your way out. smilies/wink.gif
