| I watched CATS on the internet and I think it's a neat production although the plot line is hard to understand and most of the cats bothered me in some way. The main issue was the names because I couldn't spell most of them. I liked Mungojerrie, Rumpleteazer, Jemima, Demeter and Grizabella a lot. The dancing is really superb and Jo Gibb must have a strong stomach and high nausea tolerance level to do all those cartwheels in her song. Elaine Paige is one of my favorite Fantines and her "Memory" makes me cry. Jemima had a good voice but it kind of disappointed me that it wasn't her actual singing. Overall, it's nice to watch but I have problems with the lyrics and the plot. I don't know, I just guess I'm more of a dog person.
Anyway, so my mom had to drive me and a friend home because my friend's parents were working and we started talking about theatre programs and she mentioned a really interesting one at a boy's private school in our town. When they put on their musicals, they have open casting call for the female roles and it's completely free! Plus they have amazing sets, amazing costumes, amazing singers and the best part:
The theatre is air conditioned.
It's a big commitment because you have to go everyday for about 3 months but it seems like something I could get a lot out of and I'm going to the next casting call to see what it's like and get an audition experience. (For Les Mis, I did the audition but I was already guarenteed a spot so the stakes weren't high at all and looking back, I don't think I gave it all I could)
So the casting call isn't for several months but I'm still going to start organzing my songs and picking out the best ones for me. I am suspecting that they might do Les Mis since it just closed and my production was one of the first to do theirs and now a local high school is doing it as well but as much as I love the show, I want to move onto other projects as well. My Fair Lady would be cool and it would be convient for an all boys school. I'm also crossing my fingers for Ragtime, Willy Wonka, Fiddler on the Roof, Into the Woods, The Civil War, Damn Yankees and Sweeney Todd.
Wish me luck for December! ;) |
