Beauty and the Beast Audition
Written by lilygrimm128
Okay, so today I went to audition for a production of Beauty and the Beast that's being offered by my town's Dept. of Parks and Recreation. This is my first time performing with this particular group, called Living Art Theatricks.

Now, I really like the show Beauty and the Beast (Disney is the bestest), and I really love the music in it (Alan Menken is also the bestest), especially Belle's songs, of which there are quite a few.

Okay, so I go to the audition at noon. I've brought my BatB piano sheet book with me just in case, and people keep borrowing it to use as reference. The songs we are using to audition are generally songs from the show, i.e. Home, A Change in Me, Be Our Guest, etc. The high-school-aged kids are going to do vocal auditions first.

While I was waiting to go audition, I talked to some of the other people. One I knew from middle school, Matt, one I knew in passing, Alex, and one person I met for the first time, Olivia. We joked and sang and stuff. It was fun. There were 11 of us auditioning at the time, and so we had about 5 minutes of audition time each. I went in 9th (I turned in my info sheet a little late) and I sang Home, because it was the only song in the offered list that I had done with my voice teacher. I think I did pretty well with it. I projected a lot better than usual.

Then they asked me to read a little for Mrs. Potts, which was one of the roles I said I'd like to be considered for (the other was Belle). The part they asked me to read was a little weird, because most of it was actually a song (the reprise of Home) that they asked me to read as a monologue. I don't think that part went as well as the singing.

After that, we had dance auditions. Eeeek! Dancing is not my strong suit. As an example of this, we stretched first. During one of these stretches, I managed to pull a muscle in my right shoulder, which still hurts. Way to go, me!

Then we started to learn the dance. I was doing okay, I guess, but at one point I wasn't sure how the steps matched up with the tempo of the song, and I sort of floundered for the rest of the number. Needless to say, I did not get called back for a dance part. Actually, none of the high-school-aged girls did. But I'm okay with that. I don't like dancing that much, anyway.

After that, the director called over people in small groups to tell them what part they got called back for. After a while, he called me and Olivia over. Guess what?! WE GOT CALLBACKS FOR BELLE!!! AAAAHHHH!!!

I was hugely excited. I know I might not get the part, but it's kind of cool to think about. I would love to get to do all the songs that Belle does, which I love. On the less positive side, I'm not sure if I'm ready for such a big role yet. I'd have to learn a lot of lines, and I don't know how comfortable I'd be with any type of kissing scene and such. Actually, I already have a feeling that I would be REALLY uncomfortable with any kind of kissing scene and such. But Belle has such good songs. Conflict!

Whether I get the role or not, I'm pretty sure this production is going to be a lot of fun!
