Projecting?!?!
Written by Elphaba2b

Okay, in my current production of Alice in Wonderland Jr (which opens TONIGHT!) we were rehearsing at dress rehearsal, and my director told us we're being too quiet, but with a body mic we'd be ok. Then at a post-rehearsal powwow, the tech producer dropped the bomb: NO BODY MICS! ONLY 3 OUT OF 15 MICS WERE GETTING RECEPTION!

I'm horrible at projecting, and I wasn't professionally taught how to project. HELP! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease reply by 5:15 tonight! Thank you SO MUCH!!!

I don't know if this helps at all, but try talking the way you sing (chest voice). Use lots of air, and open up your throat.

Thanks you guys! The tech producer saved the day, and brought mics from home and fixed the broken ones. Thanks anyway you guys!

I have a mic tip for you. Don't Breathe too hard! I was supposed to be very harried in Romeo and Juliet so I would work myself up before going on. Then you would hear me breathing in my mic. Suprisingly we did well keeping mics on during the fight for Narnia for Mr. Beaver, Edmund, The White Witch and PEter.

I agree with triplethreat, breath support. Break a leg! (I was just in this)

glad it worked out. you should practice projecting anyway (the same way you support your singing voice) I see too many actors these days relying on body mics in smallish theatres where they really shouldn't be necessary. lack of training.
