an interesting audition
Written by mrmistofolees19

Today, I auditioned for The Pajama Game. I was at first afraid of my audition song ("whats the use of wonderin" from carousel), but after everyone else sang, I was verrry relieved. I auditioned in a group (i went first), and here's what the others sang (remember, this is an audition for the Pajama game!!):

Tell Me On a Sunday (i LOVE that song but.....???), Empty Chairs at Empty Tables (he laughed when he said "..and tomorrow never came".... um...yes thts very funny), All That Jazz (not bad), Show Off (she included weird dance moves... awkward haha) Somewhere Over the Rainbow (UGGHH NOOOOO) and a few others... one girl sang that annoying pop song..."you know i'd walk a thousand miles just to see you..and just to hold you tonight" oh boy....

Wow. And alot of my group just stood still and looked like they were staring at death. As for me, I did walk around and use my hands and face and such.... I had major crackage of the voice, but I hope they'll remember that I'm only 15. I hate puberty. ICK. Anyway.... I did go a little faster that the music, but caught up right away...

For the cold reading, I was Gladys for a scene. I did okay. Coulda done better, but I'm okay. We only had one guy in our group, and he had to read for EACH little groups of people reading. lucky him... haha.

The dancing section was easy-ish. I really liked the song we were dancing to (dunno what it was... it was instrumental though) so i actually enjoyed that. :)

I really hope I get cast.... and if I'm not, I'm still happy with my audition. It was MUCH better than some of my previous ones. But each year, this theatre performs at the BIGGEST stage in our city, DOWN TOWN, where all the TOURING COMPANIES perfom.... so yeah, I really wanna get in. It would be such an experience. :)

.... cast list goes up in a few days!!!

funny... i auditioned for the PG today, too. sang Wonderful Guy from south pacific. dressed in a pencil skirt w/ a baby blue button down and pearls. many people were singing Joseph, A Chorus Line, Footloose, Hairspray..... ??????

the call back was held today, too. the dance was "hard" but doable. it became harder when the choreographers weren't doing it w/ us b/c there were a lot of steps. i read/sang for gladys, babe, and mae. i swept the floor w/ my singing, specifically for Babe. four of us sang for her. i sang and acted it.... we sang from the end (when i fall in love there'll be no doubt about it 'cause you will know from the way that i shout it...) the others were weak and had no mix or belt.

before i left the were asking me if i would consider mae. they even called me on the way home to try to convince me of it. my problem is she is not a singer. it's more of a character role. and of the people auditioning, i sang the best for babe. the politics is that the same two people-- an older couple who is not a couple but have been a couple and maybe they're a couple....-- play the leads in the first summer show every year whether or not they are appropriate. that kills me.

my "dilemma" now is do i accept the role or do i skip it. i want to sing. sure i can sing in the chorus but it's not the same. especially when you've been to an open call and saw your competition.

oh, the drama in theatah!

oooh, sounds like it went well! Let us know how it all ended up.

Those big theaters are always fun. I perform regularly at the venue that KT Tunstall is coming to, which is very exciting- I can say that we were on the same stage! smilies/grin.gif
