Picking Up Again
Written by Starlet_Actress21
Well, as any of you assured me they would, things seem to be picking up again. Though I still don't have a show- it's been a month today, augh!- my latest auditions have been going pretty well. Two have been for professional theatres. The first one went really well, which is funny because I almost didn't go. I got there and somehow, the guy CD knoew my name... weird. If it had been in the same town I'd done Secret School in, I would've been less surprised, but this was about an hour away from there! So I was the first to audition on day 2 and I did a comedic and dramatic monologue. The comedic went well, and after my dramatic (during which I cried... kind of a lot) they were like, "Wow." The guy CD (there were two ladies, too) said I'd probably get a callback. I'm still not expecting to, because I know they saw people the day before and after me, but it was nice to be told that anyway- that's never happened before. The other one was for Brigadoon (the previous one was for an entire season). I was super nervous because I knew if they asked me to read with the accent, I'd sound pretty stupid- I can't do a Scottish accent very well, though I was working on it. But they didn't ask me to read, so that brdige remained uncrossed. I sang It Might As Well Be Spring from State Fair and even though I messed up the last note, they seemed very happy with it. "That was terrific- really terrific." No reading or dancing, but I was satisfied. I probably won't get in- look a bit young, even though I'm the right age. But it was great to get such positive feedback on my song (especially since it was my first time auditioning with it)- it's the one I'm using for Sound of Music auditions and have a much better chance of getting in!

I have a bunch of auditions comng up. Sadly, I had to cross Into the Woods off my list again (twice this spring!) because you have to be at both audition days and one is a Thursday, which is not do-able for me until June. I was really sad because it's at a theatre I love and I want to be Little Red very badly. But colleges do it a lot, so maybe I'll have a chance later.

Sound of Music is the one I'm most excited about, and one more came up yesterday that I'm almost as thrilled about- High School Musical! I know  serious theatre people aren't supposed to be into corny fluff like HSM... but I really like the original (not so much HSM2, though). I would love to play Gabriella or Sharpay- or even Kelsey or Taylor. It's one of those camp things where you audition and then, if you get in, it's camp-style. It's only two weeks, so maybe, even if I get in the ensemble, I'll do it. It's not like it's four months. I hope I get Gabriella or Sharpay, though. Any song suggestions for Gabriella?

The other auditions are for various little known plays, but I still can't wait. It's just such a nice change to have auditions all the time... and to be doing well at them agan!
