Moving On
Written by Starlet_Actress21

So... I'm attempting to move on from my recent college rejections. I reported one in my last blog entry, and the day after that, I got two more. Huge blow to my confidence, it was. But I'm trying out for (hopefully) three more, one in abut three weeks (AMDA). The other two are English, so I don't know if or when I'll try out for them.

I am soooo excited for next month- I already have four auditions scheduled, and I can't wait to get started! One of them is for a theatre season, and that's in three days. On Sunday, I have Brigadoon auditions right before we get our family picture taken (which I'm also excited for- in the family picture hanging on the wall above my head, I'm twelve.) O the 19th is my AMDA audition. And then, on April 26th, I have auditions for The Sound of Music!!!! I am sooo excited for this audition. I've always wanted to be in the show, and my school was supposed to do it this year, but opted for Cats instead. I cancelled my prom hair appointment (our prom is that day) to make the audition... so worth it! I'm going for Louisa mostly, because they already have a Leisl (they're looking for an understudy). If I can help it, I'm not going to put my age on my form- I may be eighteen, but I look about twelve (in fact, I'm playing a twelve year old in a school film on Monday). I would still be happy if I got Leisl's understudy, but it'd be great to get Louisa. Now I have to choose the perfect song.

I want to get at least one more show in before I go off to college, so I'm hoping that something comes of at least one of these auditions.

The film I'm doing on Monday is one I blogged about before, the scene where I play a girl who has a list of those helping Jewish people during World War II on her person when Nazis raid her apartment. I'm really nervous about it, especially since our director (a fellow student) is pretty mean and insults our acting a lot of the time. But I've worked with the girl playing my mother before- we were scene partners a few months ago. One of my friends plays the bookseller who gives me the list, and another classmate plays a Nazi. I love my costume (even our director grudgingly said it was "actually pretty decent"), which includes kneesocks and a cute little bow for my hair (I was going to nix this accessory if I was playing the girl at her true age- nineteen- but since I'm twelve, I'm totally wearing it). My shoes are about three sizes too small, though. I got them for State Fair this summer, and they were so painful to wear that, after a half hour of trying to dance in them, I could walk while wearing them at all. I've been stretching them out for the part week, though, so maybe they'll fit now? I hope so, because the director loves them and they go so well with my costume.

There are some little touches to my costume that I've added, such as the cross I wear around my neck. I wanted to make sure the audience knew that my mother and I weren't Jewish ourselves, so we don't have as much to fear when the Nazis come into our apartment. Our director said that no one would see it, but even if they can't, I'm still wearing it so I know it's there. I'm also wearing a leotard under my costume. It's a little small and "flattens" me out a little, which will help with the "twelve" illusion. I searched my entire house for a plain, old- fashioned bag, but we didn't have one, so today, I went to Goodwill and got a perfect bag for $3.50. In it, I put some schoolbooks that are almost period- they're from 1950. Again, the audience will probably never see these, but such touches help me really get into character.

Well, gotta go- I got some books on the 1940's to read today, and I want to get started!
