| Hola.
Well, Cats auditions were Tuesday for me. The dance was pretty easy, and it was done to Jellicle Cats. After the dancing portion, we lined up to sing. I was number three, and my rendition of Memory was okay, I guess, but nothing special. For the first couple seconds, I couldn't find my notes, so I'm sure that wasn't good. I was ahead of the music twice, which is weird, because the version they gave us was way faster than the practice song. The callback list went up on Wednesday, and, as I predicted, i didn't get one. But one of my really good friends got called back for Grizabella and Jelly-somethingorother, and a lot more of my friends got called back for various roles. All the guys, of course, got, like, three callbacks.
The cast list was posted on the internet last night, and I didn't get in. But I didn't feel disappinted at all, so I obviously wasn't too desperate to get in. Honestly, besides Memory and Jellicle Cats, I don't like the musical at all. I just figured if I got in, it'd be a good dance experience. My friend got Jelly-whatever- she lost Grizabella to a senior who I know and like (but I still think my friend should've gotten it). They seemed to have done away with the pit singers, which I think was a good choice. I'm glad I'm not bitter about this- it just makes things so much easier, LOL (though I've never really gotten bitter about losing a part, just sad).
My dance classes are going well- I just got back from my extra ballet class (they offered us a free Friday ballet class in addition to our regular Thursday, so I'm taking advantage of it.), and my feet are killing me! There were only two of us tonight (there are only six or seven normally) so our teacher was really pushing us. I really really like ballet, and I'm so glad I took it up. Jazz is going well, too. Our recital number is to What I Like About You, and we do this one thing where we have to do a pirouette, jump and spin around in the air, and then land in a straddle. I can do it all but land in a straddle- I don't quite trust myself enough. But I can land and then slide into the straddle... Tap is all right- I like it better than last year. We might do a "tap-hop" number for the recital, which is a mix of tap and hip hop and it pretty fun. Triple Threats is... interesting. All of us who were in the class last year are really missing our old teacher. Our new one is just fine, but our old one was so awesome, and we'd just like him to come back. We're doing a routine to Work This Out from HSM2, and I kinda hate my "solo". Hopefully we'll trade like she said we would. I'm not trying to be snobby when I say this, but I really wish we'd've had TT Elite auditiond in the beginning of the year because there are a few people in our class who can't really sing... they just do vocal gymnastics the whole time like they hear in pop songs.
At my theatre school, we have a mid-year and an end-of-year performance. Last year, we only had an EOY because I was in the morning class. But now I've moved to the advanced class, so we get to do MY, too. I am really excited about it. It's based on Orson Welles' War of the Worlds broadcast in 1938 and its effect on people who didn't know it was a show. I'm excited because we got our parts yesterday and I got two really good ones... in two scenes that I wrote! I'm elated that two of my scenes were chosen- I wrote three, so two is pretty good, I think- especially since my one scene wasn't very popular with about half the class. The other scene, however, which was co-written with a classmate, is really funny and was voted in unanimously. So I play a fourteen-year-old named Marianne, and a forty-year-old Floridian hick named Louanne. A big stretch, but I am really exicted! |
