| Hey, everyone- I haven't written in awhile because I've been super busy.
Odd Couple closed last night *sniff* It was a great experience, especially since one of my best friends was playing the lead (I was supporting). I love that play and we should have had more rehearsals and performances (we only had two performances and maybe 20 rehearsals). We had great audiences both nights, and a lot of people I knew came, which was great. Only one of my school friends came... my regular school friends aren't theatre people, sadly.
I've just gotten a Zune (it's an MP3 player, similar to an iPod, if you didn't know) and I love it. My mom got me a "free month" of downloading, so I've added so many musicals onto it- that's pretty much all it is! It's great, though, because the Mp3 system I'd used before didn't have any State Fair on it, and this one does! I also dowloaded the Legally Blonde musical soundtrack- my friend Alison was singing it the other day and I thought it sounded cool. I love it!
In not-so-happy news, I got a lead in a Christmas musical at the same thetre that did Odd Couple... and then I had to give it up. Turns out, my parents scheduled our trip to Disney World four days earlier than they told me they would, and I'd have to miss the last two performances. I felt so awful telling them because it's an original musical, and they wrote my part specifically for me... plus, it was going to be my first musical lead. I cried. A lot. People think I'm really ungrateful- "You're going to Disney World!' they exclaim. But it would be totally possible to go if we just moved our trip back two days. Maybe I am ungrateful...
Did I say that I got in my school play? Wel,l if I didn't, I did get in. Well, kind of. I'm Woman With Dog. While this is a tiny, tiny part (normally played by the same person who played The Mother), it has come in handy because I didn't have any of those rehearsals conflict with Odd Couple tech week. It's also a really stress-free production for me. Though I'm not a fan of the girl who got the lead, she is doing a great job with the part. I had to laugh when the director asked me if I could use my dog as my dog in the play! My parents said yes... I think it'll be okay, as long as she isn't scared of stage lights or anything. I'm sure she'll love it- two hours of being pampered by the cast, with twenty seconds of stage work (during which she also gets petted).
The other show I have going on is the Ghost Tour... I'm getting pretty nervous. I haven't even begun to memorze my monologue, since OC had so few rehearsals. I just don't like monologues, especially dramatic ones. I'm just glad our next rehearsals will be by candlelight... it makes me feel less exposed.
I must do an audition search today... I feel so panicked when I realize I don't have another show to go to. Of course, I do, I'm set 'til November, but I'd like to have something else to go to. I might audition for a Christmas show tomorrow night, though my mom insists the theatre is too far away... it's actually the theatre where I did my first non-school show, so it has a special place in my heart. Besides that, I'm auditioning for Tommy at the OC theatre (CDT). I put the Tommy soudrack on my Zune and was shocked to find that I like it! I still hae to pick a rock/pop song to sing for the audition, which is posing a major problem... I have a folk song voice, and rock is really hard for me, as is pop. I only know a few songs from Rent, none from Tick, Tick, Boom, and they said no Hairspray (not that I'd do that anyway, even though i love it.) I was thinking Chess... any opinions?
For the same theatre, we're trying to convince them to do Into the Woods instead of Little Shop... firstly because everyone in our area is doing Little Shop this year, including their biggest rival theatre.
Well, this had gone on long enough... so that's the end of my latest update. |
