| Well, Its been forever since I updated with a blog! My life has been crazy with freshman year in high school coming to an end. I look back at the past year and I definatly felt like it was an amazing year musically and I really felt that I took a lot of risks, and most of them, not all of them came back around positive.
First off, like I said I'm a freshman in high school, so this past spring meant that I particiapted in my first high school production. yay! Since my school seems to be very freak-ish about only seniors get the leads, (anyone else's high school like this? I really don't appreciate this because it really should be based on talent, but its reallyyy annoying, but whatever. My sister was the only one to "break the rule" when she got Dorothy as a sophmore. Anyway, so the show was Cinderella, and I auditioned big, but I did get one-step above a chorus person, a mouse! This version was more magical and the mice acutally sang and danced, it was a great time. Definatly wasn't like any other show I've done. The show was a great hit and I'm so excited to find about the show for next year.... I've heard rumors like Sound of Music, Seussical, Beuaty and the Beast, Footloose... so I have no idea!
Secondly, every summer I particiapte in this local theatre camp thats three weeks and at the end of working on the show for three weeks you perform it, and its just freaking amazing! I've done this camp for two years and every year after its over I look back and can't believe we did a show in three weeks- its crazy! The camp is run by all local professionals; my voice teacher is actually the musical director which is nice. Anyways, the show this summer is the 5 Tony Award Show that nobody really knows and assume its just like the movie, but its NOT.... Titanic! Once I got acustomed to the music I fell in love with it and I'm just so excited for this summer. For those who are familiar with the show, I sang "We'll Meet Tomorrow" hoping for anything other than just a chorus person. I really feel like I took a risk with that for my audition because like 98% of all the girls sang "Lady's Maid", and I really wanted to be different and sing a song that supported my voice range as well since Lady's Maid like went up to a D or E. Anyways, its been almost a month and the cast list FINALLY came out. I ended up getting the role of Fleet! I'm actually really excited even though its a male part, because one) At leas 60% of the girls are playing guy parts because we don't have a guy to fill every part, which lead to most of the girls with most experience, talent, etc. getting roles of guys. two) my sister got the role of Bride, which means I'll get to have some interaction with her, and three) I get to sing one of my favorite songs in the show, "No Moon". I'm just soooo ready to start working with everyone, but unfortunatly the camp doesn't start till late July. :(
Lastly, I recently just auditioned for a local community theatre for the first time, and boy it was an experience! It was an open audition for all ages for this show that the director & his parents wrote called "Exodus" thats about the story of Moses in the bible. Its really interesting from what I read on the website & heard from him at the audition. He has the rights to songs from Prince of Egypt and some songs from Aida. Anyways, so on the website it didnt give any detail about what to sing, or what kind of monologue, so I ended up preparing "If I Were A Bell" from Guys and Dolls since I was Sarah Brown last year, and since it was really late notice, I performed the Titanic monologue that I did for that audition. (above) When I got there, he said that his accomp. wasn't coming, so I either had to sing it a capella, or a song from Aida which I didn't know- so I sang a capella. At first I thought I was going to crash and burn, but I realized whenever I'm practicing it I sing it a cappella, so it didn't go that badly! I was just so nervous because this was my first audition out of my school or theatre camp so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. My monologue went perfectly, and then he gave me a cold read for the part of the narrator. It was really interesting, but I probably wouldn't get the role of the narrator because I'm younger. Anyways, he was really happy and he said the cast list will be out in two weeks... so we'll see :) |
