Musical, Complete Diva, Murder?
Written by briar

AAGGH! This time of year is stressful. I knew it would be at the beginning of the year when I signed up for all of this, but sometimes it gets to the point of severe ridiculousness (is that even a word?) Opening night for my school's production of Leader Of The Pack is Thursday. In a special rehearsal today .. it took us 5 hours to get thru one run of the show. Who takes 5 hours to get thru an hour & 45 min show?! We can't do this when the show is in a couple of days! I understand it was because the tech crew was trying to work out the glitches, but when you have one grade 10 student running all of it, & a musical director yelling at him the entire time, you're gonna get a complete & utter disaster. It doesn't help either when the leads still don't know their lines & the band is SOOO un-rehearsed. I think the part that drives me crazy the most tho is one of our directors, she has become the biggest diva I ever met in my life this year! This lady was my vocal teacher in first semester & I think her head has gotten just a little bit too big for her shoulders. She is a very self-absorbed woman, everything must go her way or else all hell breaks loose, & if not everyone runs by her schedule .. well we'll skip that part. She went ahead this year & gave herself a role in the play, & thats fine, have ur fun, yeah it'll be funny, ha ha .. but she's also tried to change the blocking in several scenes so that she can make some kind of appearance & be the centre of attention. As hard as it might be for her to believe this, this one thing will not be about you. You are in one scene, the whole play does not revolve around you. She makes people cry at almost every rehearsal, and the worst part is when she tries to change my shit! This year I did all the choreography for the show cuz I've been a dancer for the last 14 years of my life, & she feels the need to change a lot of the stuff I've done. I expected her to like, move people around, change a move if she didn't like it, but when she starts adding people in, changing counts and the choreography completely .. i just might lose it. & when she ad libs her scene to make it longer & spend more time on the stage, lalalala! I especially like it when she changes things & doesn't even consult the other director. She's co-director, not DIRECTOR. She is supposed to run the vocal side of this musical, & the other guy does all the blocking. A LOT of times she likes to change blocking & it doesn't even work cuz she won't think things thru! It's just "do it this way & don't ask any questions." NO! This "Prima Donna" attitude has even rubbed off on some of the other people in the cast. The music director/band conductor just completely went off today in diva mode & i'm not gonna lie, but it was kinda scary. The band didn't start rehearsing with us until this month, so they don't really know all the tempos we've been practicing at, so when we try to say it's too fast or too slow, thats it. The world has come to an end. This music director will suddenly "not take music advice from just a student." Okay, so when no one knows what to do show night cuz you change tempos & add vamps that we don't know existed ... then we'll talk. Show time is always stressful, & i'm hoping the show will be fine, it will definitely be interesting tho. Let's see what happens!

Oh! I am so sorry!! I was just in one of those unorganized plays. We only did one dress rehearsal. We never practiced with our mics until Opening Night either. Some how, it all kinda worked out on Opening Night. No one died, no one choked up on their lines either. Anyways, I am sure it will work out. I was considering dropping out, but then I decided that if I was ever going to be a professional actor, I would have to go through some shows that you know will be bad, but you will have to deal with it. Just keep on working hard and try not to get on the diva director's bad side smilies/wink.gif .
