Embarassment
Written by QKCTheatre

Hi everyone!

I was lucky enough to go on a cruise for the last 10 days and it was wonderful and relaxing and I had a gret time. But upon arriving back home, things have been busier than ever!

I just got home at 4:00am and pretty much got 4 hours sleep then was up again for my 10:00 audition. For the most pasrt it went very well. I sang "If I Loved You" and the director gave me some direction then I sang it again. The dance call went really well too! It was really easy and I felt extremely confident about my performance. Unfortunately, due to my newfound confidence, I decided I'd participate in the tap part of the audition. Usually, I'm a competent tapper, but I hadn't danced in a month or two. Of course, I was the last in the line and every single person ahead of me was an absolutely amazing tapper. They were all doing these crazy moves so by the time it was time for me to do my simple time steps and paradiddles I was so intimidated that I messed up the simplest of steps! It was extremely embarrassing and I hope that they overlook the fact that I'm an awful tapper.

Grease is also going strong. I'm on spring break right now, but once school's back in session, we have 2 more weeks of rehearsal then it's show time! I've never been a fan of Grease but now that I'm doing the show, it's starting to grow on me. I mean the music is really simple, the script's not what you'd call Shakespeare and the moral is a bit stupid but I love the energy and fun of the show.

The only problem is our director is well, a bit insane. He likes to add weird little things in; some he added because he's trying to get a laugh and they probably will get laughs, but the audience won't be laughing with us they'll be laughing at us. The other changes I'm not quite sure why he put them in there because they don't enhance the show and they just make things extremely difficult (if not impossible!) for the actors. Some of these little "changes" include:

-Sandy being in the opening high school reunion scene in full Bad Sandy garb (so hair curled, red lipstick, tight leather pants and the like) then half a scene later return as Normal Sandy (hair straightened, pink lipstick, poodle skirt etc.).

-Every dance number the chorus has to run on unexpectedly and then upon finishing the dance look confused about why they just broke out into song and dance and then walk away.

-The "Radio Voice" is now a person wearing a radio costume who sits on stage the whole show. She also dances with Sandy during "Raining on Prom Night".

-After Danny asks Sandy if she'll take his ring, the Pink Ladies break into a rousing chorus of Single Ladies by Beyonce. I'm dead serious.

-The show ends with a massive dance party/dog pile.

But this blog is getting extremely long so to wrap it up: "Little Women" is also running smoothly and we open this Sunday! Also, a company in my area is putting on '...Spelling Bee" which is one of my favorite musicals! I'm extremely excited!

Happy spring everyone!

Quinn

wow, sounds liike you are having a blast. I'm a bit curious about Grease though, especially with the single ladies thing. But I do like the first idea of having Sandy appear in the reunion as her all dolled up- even though it would be one heck of a costume change. Let us know how it goes smilies/smiley.gif
