Senior Solo Ideas?
Written by hannahmae

Each year, my choir puts on a pop concert at the end of the year. All of the seniors are given the opportunity to audition to sing a solo during the concert. I am having a difficult time finding a suitable song. The piece should convey the feelings of moving on, accomplishment, etc. for a graduating senior. Due to my love for theatre, I would love to sing a piece from a musical. I am a mezzo soprano.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

For Good, from Wicked?

I have a song in mind, but it's from contemporary opera repertoire. ("Classical" musical theatre, if you will smilies/smiley.gif ) "Laurie's Song" from A Tender Land by Aaron Copland would be perfect for the occasion. Pitch-wise it's a bit challenging, but very beautiful. And normally I wouldn't recommend it, but I think this piece can be approached from a "legit MT" perspective and still sound appropriate. Good luck!
