Rent auditon - whoops!!
Written by jcliffo

So I really wanted to go to a community theatre's auditon for Rent! But I had rehearsal for another show that day (Seussical the Musical!!). I emailed the director and he said I could come down the day of the callback. Cool. So I went and I sang "Strongest Suit" from Aida and he asked me to stay for callbacks!

Only problem, I had been focusing on my audition song and didn't really think to prepare for a possible callback ahh!! I know the music from Rent so I wasn't so terribly unprepared. I ended up being seen for Maureen and also for Mimi. He had all the girls sit up on stage and stand up center stage to sing. First they called Maureens, and we performed some of "over the moon'. Luckily about 12 girls went ahead of me so I could go over the lines in my head before my turn. I did ok, not great, but ok.

Then they called for Mimi's and I was the first to go up!! Of course, we had to sing "out tonight". Before we started, the musical director specified for the high note in "ooUUUUt tonight" it should be rough and edgy not 'pretty'. 'Duh' I thought. I can do that.

So I sang the whole first verse and I was cruising, I did really well I think! And then the chorus was coming up. I think I was really afraid to crack the note or sound off key, so I definitely held back and it came out.....pretty.

"Ok, thanks!" Said the director. I smiled and said 'thanks" trying to hold in my laughter. WHOOPS

It was a good experience and good story at the very least. Needless to say I didn't get called. Oh well! There will be more auditions!

Break a leg everyone!
