It depends of the song, the show its from, etc. Look at the song independently from the show and try to evaluate it. A song like "It Won't Be Long Now” from In the Heights, for example, would work if a non-Latina 20 something sang it, but I wouldn't go and sing anything from Porgy and Bess if I wasn't black (except Summertime, most people don't associated that with the show).

I agree with Cat, I wouldn't worry as long as the song/monologue doesn’t contain specific references to an ethnicity in it. Some songs and monologues might be really closely associated with a specific ethnicity (Like "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls), but as long as there's nothing plot-wise or character-wise that would prevent someone of a different ethnicity from performing the piece, I say go for it.
