In case I ever need my resume for anything, I figured I should get it aproved by you guys. The only thing I'm not sure about-- should I take away where I say the size of the role? And should I put the year on? And is the training section fine or should I reword it?I took off my name and contacts. The format will probably be all messed up. Thanks!

Now for the amazing stories! Well there's a professional (but not equity) playhouse near us that does an apprenticeship in the summer, where you pretty much get to talk to everyone backstage and learn about what they do. My sister did it last year, and this year when they did Beauty and the Beast they called her wanting to know if she wanted to play Chip. She was too tall but she told them she had a younger sister (me!) who could do it... so I got the part! At a proffesional playhouse! Other than being short enough I got it because I'm homeschooled and so I could go to the rehearsals, I wouldn't have been able to if I had been in school. It was suuuuch an amazing summer, I learned so much and I'm just so glad I got the opportunity to do it. It was awesome working with all the proffesional people, seeing how into their characters they were and how amazing at singing they all were. I learned so much about singing and performing!
And then yesterday I found out... my friend who is 12 got into the junior version of Wicked!!!! As if that isn't exciting enough, the girl who was playing Elphaba dropped out. And the director called her and wanted to know if she still wanted to play Elphaba!!!!! Needless to say, she did. She's sooo excited and I am incredibly jealous. Elphaba and Galinda are dream roles of mine. It's mind boggling that she's playing Elphaba! *sigh* But I don't have anything to complain about, after this summer :D

looks like a good resume t me. Idk if you HAVE to put the part size, but you can if you want. Congrats on beauty and the beast! I did my first professional show this summer too and contrary to the negative blogs i posted about it and how ungreatful i must have sounded it was a great experience and it sounded like yours was too! and i am sooooooooooo jealous of your friend! I would give ANYTHING to be able to play elphaba or any role in wicked for that matter. do u know how they got the rights? i HAVE to tell my theatre director and see if we could do it sometime.

Thanks! Well she's doing it with something called Junior Broadway, and there's Junior Broadways all across the U.S. so I think maybe they have the rights to everything on broadway or something like that...? Since I didn't think the rights were out either.

Hello all, I glad to be here! I am very new to all of this so I need alot of advice. One question I have
is since I am new to all of this, what is the best way to do a resume without much experience?
I'm just starting out and realizing my dream of being a singer working towards that goal, with no
experience at all in regards to theatre. I started taking voice lessons in January 08,
my coach is a former musical actress so we concentrate on alot of musicals and show tunes
when choosing songs selections for me. When i started, I had "NO" interest in doing show style
singing but since I've been taking my voice lessons, I really APPRECIATE IT MORE THAN i THOUGHT i
WOULD AND JUST DREAM OF IT EVERYDAY. Need some advice on resume writing for the
novice like me, help! Thanks

Hey, congrats on your role of Chip!

Just some things about your resume: instead of your age AND age range, just put your age range. Especially since it's at the top, if a director is looking for an eleven year old or a fifteen year old and s/he sees '13' at the top, s/he might write you off right away. But if they just see that you can play age ten to fourteen, they might want to see you because they don't know how old you actually are. I don't even put my age on audition forms if it's optional, because even though I'm eighteen, I look fourteen, so they don't need to know I'm way older than the character! (Though don't lie about your age! If they ask, tell them. I've heard of some people saying, "I am the age I look", but that seems a little smart-alecky to me, so I wouldn't risk it. Sometimes I joke by saying, "Take a wild guess", but don't hide your age! [Plus, if you look ten but are thirteen, that's plus professionalism and experience-wise.])

I would say no to putting the year on, but that's just me. smilies/wink.gif

Thanks so much! I'll definitely take the age off, that makes sense.

Hi YaDonna! I don't really know how you'd do your resume, if you have no experience. Maybe you could audition for a musical (so you get some experience) that doesn't require a resume, like community theatre. Or if they still need one, you could just tell them you're taking voice lessons but have no experience.
