The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
Written by Elphaba2b

I'm auditioning for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (it was a book) in a few weeks. It's in a very established theatre a few towns away. I'm very excited, because I loved the book when I read it back in the third grade. It calls for children ages 6-14, with 9 girl parts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_best_christmas_pageant_ever   That link has all the characters.

I want to be either Imogene Herdman (I'm REALLY good at villians!) or Alice Wendelken (I'm also good a goody-two-shoes!). They asked us to prepare a song, and I was thinking maybe My New Philosophy, from You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, but the company did YAGMCB a few months ago.

I'm a mezzo-soprano, maybe a little lower though. I don't know...

Any song suggestions?

Have a look at something from How To Eat Like A Child. "Sayonara" would probably work pretty well.
I did this show with an equity company when I was 11 (I played Hobie.. they changed him into a tomboy girl), it was soooo much fun! Break a leg smilies/smiley.gif

I love this show! I choreographed a production we made into a musical once. It was so much fun!

See if you can find a funny Christmas song to sing! This show is a comedy and showing humor might make you stand out instead of the usual musical comedy songs. Often there are lyric take-off's of traditional Christmas Tunes so you might not have to worry about a new song, just lyrics. For instance, there is a guy that use to be on the radio named Dr. Demento. He use to play all kinds of strange music on his radio show. He has a CD called "Dr. Demento Presents The Greatest Christmas Novelty CD of All Time". One of the songs is called All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth (an oldie). Many of the songs are old recordings, but they are really cute. Another song is called Nuttin' For Christmas which is the perfect "Herdman song! Some songs on the CD's might have some language or things in them that are not exactly "family fare", so you have to judge. Maybe only do part of the song, etc. There are other CD's out there too. Do a search. With a show like this, and it being Christmas and all, you can be creative. You might have to order sheet music or a song book if there is a song you like that is not a traditional Christmas song, but I believe there are a number of comedy books out there. Break A Leg!
