Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/07/26 00:27i was so worried that it wouldn't live up to my love of the show's music, but i think they did a really nice job with it! i'm a little upset that mama, i'm a big girl now wasn't in it, but i guess on screen it wouldn't have had the same effect.
the casting, in my opinion, didn't turn out the way i thought it would either. i really wasn't against anybody after watching it. michelle could have been a little stronger, in my opinion, but it wasn't terrible!Hi! I'm Amanda Dance is my first love.. but Musical Theatre is a close second.

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/07/26 14:43I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. At first, I was a little tenative about the casting but once I saw it most of my fears were unfounded. I agree that Michelle's performance could have been stronger, but it didn't take anything away from the experience for me. I was also surprised by Zac Efron. I guess I disliked him because of HSM, but I must say that in this movie he was quite good. All in all, I would definitely recommend seeing the movie because it was just fun.

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/07/26 20:58I was only really worried about the casting of Zac Efron and Christopher Walken; but they both turned out to be amazing. I've seen the movie two times already and I'm going a third time tommorow with my bestie Courtney. I think the song "Without Love" is soooo amazing in the movie. I really really really like Zac Efron's voice in High School Musical it was terrible but that's also because he was lip synching. "I Can Hear the Bells" was so funny I loved it. Amanda Bynes voice really surprised me too I didn't know she could sing.Kaila, but you can call me Kay
Favorite role ever: Lily St. Regis (Annie)

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/07/27 00:57i saw it today, and i thought it was really good, it was so cute. I agree, Michelle couldve been a little more insane lol. Amanda surprised me too, and yeah, i absolutely do not like Zac Efron in HSM, but he was actually good in this. And I always thought Queen Latifa's voice was kinda boring, but she showed some pizazz here. And i adored the girl who was Tracy (oh man, whats her name...) she was cute, and her voice was alot less annoying than the OBC Tracy. Definitly a must see!*´¨) ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•´ Annie

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/07/28 01:52I thought the movie was absolutely flawless. The casting in my opinion was complete perfection. Niki Bloski should be transferred to Broadway, because she was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! Wow! And she's a few months younger than I am!!! INSANE! Apparently she auditioned for Hairspray, but she was too young so now hopefully they'll give her a shot!
My absolute favorite part was the march scene with "I Know Where I've Been." What an incredible song. Queen Latifa OWNED it, and she brought every single emotion to the table. I think she go to Broadway as well, and I had already thought that after Chicago. This role was even better for her, however, and did an amazing job.
A nice suprise for me was Alison Janney showing up as Penny's mom! I LOVE HER!!! Omg how hysterical!!! "DEVIL CHILD!"
AMAZING MOVIE!We all lead such elaborate lives Favorite Shows: AIDA, Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods, Jekyll and Hyde, Sweeney Todd, City of Angels, Les Miserables

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/07/29 05:21I thought that the movie was cute. There were 3 things that disappointed me in the movie the fact that they took out some goods songs including my favorite "It Takes Two", that Nikki Blonskey over-pronounced some words in "Good Morning Baltimore" and that Amanda Bynes could not sing. But besides that I liked it.

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/07/29 13:36I loved Hairspray! It was such a happy show, I just wanted to get up and dance. At first , I thought John Travolta wasn't going to be that great. Man, was I proven wrong! Though I still think the accent he used was annoying ("I'm trying to arn!" what is with that? I know he's supposed to be fat and from Baltimore, but he didn't sound like either). Zac Efron was also better than I expected, because I'm not a fan of High School Musical. The "Without Love" sequence was HILARIOUS!!! I loved how he was singing to Tracy's picture and totally overdoing it.
I have to agree with meka04, Amanda Byne's singing voice wasn't that great, it sounded like she was trying to sound like Christina Aguilera, which really isn't right for the part. Peace! Sarah

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/07/30 14:32I went to the Midnight showing, and then again the next day, needless to say, I LOVED IT.
I've never seen it on broadway, so I thought it was great. My friends who have seen it on broadway, hated the movie, so I'm not sure how true it must be to the show. However, it seemed true to my "The Roots" book!
John Travolta: okay Nikki Blonsky: loved her Amanda Bynes: HATED her Zac Efron: Surprisingly liked Brittany Snow: Okay... Christopher Walken: Liked a lot Michelle Pheiffer: Good, but freakishly skinny Elijah Kelley: REALLY GOOD Taylor Parks: Loved her Queen Latifah: Pretty damn good.Currently: Dutchess of Detroit Previously: La Sonnambula Upcoming: Plaza Suite, Best of Friends

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/07/31 23:19I love this movie. Nicki Blonsky is absolutely amazing. And John Travolta was great. Queen Latifah owned. I got goosebumps during "I Know Where I've Been" I've always liked the OBC recording, but I have to say that I like the movie version better.-Eric Favorite Role: Jean Valjean Currently: Parchester, the Family Solicitor in Me and My Girl and getting ready for college auditions

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/08/01 00:04I think I enjoyed this movie mostly because I went in with the lowest expectations- I thought that John Travolta, Zac Efron and Amanda Bynes were going to TANK.
I was wrong.
Every minute of this movie was happy and fun. I didn't cringe, I didn't leave the theatre, like I thought I would. I enjoyed every minute of it. I was disappointed that Brittany Snow couldn't sing, because I think Amber is a really great part. But I was surprised by what Amanda Bynes managed- it wasn't Broadway-standards, but it wasn't painful either. And I understood the meaning of what she sang. Zac Efron looked gorgeous, and when he did sing it didn't kill my ears, like HSM. And John Travolta was funny and loveable.
Yeah- I loved it. THIS, not HSM, is the Grease of our generation. *~Kristina~*

Re:Hairspray movie! - 2007/08/03 04:52It was a lot better than I expected. I definitely was dissapointed that "Mama, Im a big girl now" wasnt in it; it's my favorite song from the show, but it was still very good. The casting turned out alright as well. I was actually a bit afraid that Amanda Bynes wasn't going to be able to pull her part off. But she did alright I suppose. It was good, but I'd still prefer the show to the movie any day (as would most theatre people i am sure).: Valerie :.
