Question about breath support for singers - 2007/07/24 22:31 Approximately how long would it take for a beginning singer with poor breathing technique to develope perfect, tension-free breath support? (The kind of breath support that allows the singer belt and to do long high notes) Most recent role: Penelope Pennywise in Urinetown
Upcoming audition: Into the Woods

Re:Question about breath support for singers - 2007/07/25 17:17 1) Everyone is different, in an infinite number of ways. There is no possible way to nail down how long vocal development will take (and, since the voice is always changing, it never really stops).

2) There is no such thing as "perfect" support. A good singer will continue to learn, grow, and change over their lifetime as a performer.

3) Breath support is not the only factor for belting and range, although it is certainly one very important factor. Not all voices are "built" to belt, and not all voices are "built" to be sopranos.

If you are asking these questions for yourself (which I assume you are) then this is really something you need to be discussing with your vocal instructor. (Do I sound like a broken record?)
