I listened to it and I loved the change! It sounded very theatre-esque, although I think Stick to the Status Quo was the most musical of the bunch from the movie.

Yes, of all the songs from the movie "Stick To The Status Quo" is the song that resembles actual musical theatre...But I love how in the stage version they put Troy & Gabriella on stage with them and they form a group of Rebels who sing "No, no, no, no. Don't stick with the stuff you know. If you wanna go far, gotta reach for your star. Don't stick with the status quo."

Re:High School Musical - 2006/12/26 07:44 They're having auditions for High School Musical where I live, too. I want to try out, but I don't think my parents will let me -- they say it's too "professional". Melchi Gabor, he's such a radical!!!

Re:High School Musical - 2006/12/29 19:24 This is certainly great to hear! Another high school in my town is doing HSM for their spring musical, and after seeing the movie, I really wondered if their director had been smoking something.

It is good to hear that the stage version is better. I fervently disliked the movie, but I guess I will go see the stage version.

I actually have a theory as to why "Status Quo" was the most theatre-ish song in the movie- it had the least touch up on the voices. There wasn't as much of a studio sound to it. Especially in the basketball scene, my major problem with the movie was that it didn't seem like the characters could actually sing. It was all electronic...

But enough ranting- thanks for sharing this!

Re:High School Musical - 2006/12/30 21:21 Oh my God! That's so great to hear that the play is better then the movie! My high school is going to be doing it and I've already been talked into doing a show that I didn't want to do this year and that show was terrible! We did Oklahoma! Never Ever do that show no matter how much anyone begs you to! Anyways most of my friends are Sr. so I kinda want to do the show but didn't want to do High School Musical but now I think I'll try out. Kylie

Re:High School Musical - 2007/02/26 14:12 I have never watched HSM. I have, until this point, refused. But a fantastic youth theatre group near me is doing it next, and I really want to join the group, the only way to do so is to audition for HSM. So I guess I should watch it at some point.. but just the mention of it makes me cringe. I guess I'll have to think about it.

Re:High School Musical - 2007/03/17 01:58 I guess it's a classic example of not judging a book by it's cover. Currently:
Upcoming Productions: Children of Eden(Ensemble)
Upcoming Auditions: All Shook Up(Lorraine/Ensemble) Company(any)

Re:High School Musical - 2007/04/07 10:46 I signed up for the auditions. Even if it does suck, gives me more chance of getting into other productions from them..

Re:High School Musical - 2007/04/07 14:06 I just got finished doing High School Musical at a children's theater nearby. It was actually the most fun I'd ever had in my entire life! I played Martha Cox... she's the hip-hop girl... it was a really great first experience with a community theater, and the cast was soooo close, and it's 50,000x better than the movie! And it's actually pretty funny cause the next thing I'm auditioning for is Beauty and the Beast..lol, break me a leg! Hip-hop hooray!!!

Re:High School Musical - 2007/04/16 11:47 Wow! A theatre by me is doing HSM as their Fall musical! Spooky! After reading this I started think about it but the other theatre that I like a lot more is doing Carousel and that has a special place in my heart. Oh well...Disney or R & H? Is that the smell of sulfur?
Oh its a stage effect!

Release your davits and jump!

-I've had a vision!
-Of disaster?
-No, of azaleas!

There is a curious paradox that no one can explain: who understands the secrets of the reaping of the grain? Who understands why spring is born out of winter's laboring pain, or why we all must die a bit before we grow again? I do not know the secret, although I know it's true. I hurt them for that reason. And myself a little bit too.
