voice teachers..oh my! - 2007/06/23 12:41 I have two questions for you. And I apologize in advance if this is covered somewhere else on the site, I'm new and haven't learned my way around yet.

The first thing is, my school is doing Les Mis next year, and I was in the musical this year, but I have a feeling it was because of my dancing background. I'm trying to choose a voice teacher, but I really have no idea about how to do that. Does anybody have tips or things I should be looking for? Any help at all would be lovely.

The second thing is about music anthologies. I want to have some on hand to be prepared for things. I am 16 and I don't know what my voice part is ( ) but can anybody reccomend the series you like?

Re:voice teachers..oh my! - 2007/06/23 13:00 Hi Amanda,

If you click on the "tips" link at the top of the page you will find our complete database of advice articles. Included in them is an article on choosing a voice teacher.

I would recommend working with a vocal instructor before you start buying lots of books and sheet music. He/she will help you choose music that is appropriate for you.

I actually don't really recommend the most popular anthologies, because the songs in them quickly become overdone because the books are so popular. And especially with sites like musicnotes that let you buy songs individually, it often makes much more sense in the long run to choose your songs gradually.

Hope that helps!
