Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/11/06 22:35Whenever our director gets mad, he throws things, predominantly stuffed animals with his favorite sayings on them (a gift froma previous cast) these include 'you don't know what the heck you're doing' among others. It's said to be an initiation to have one thrown at you...-Ali

I just love that anytime the stage manager says anything everyone thanks them. I did a show where we had two performances on Saturdays so one week we stayed at the theatre and watched "Nightmare Before Christmas" in the middle. They were having a hard time getting it set up, so finally the stage manager got on the god mike and said "okay, we'll be able to start the movie in about five minutes."
And then from all over the building i hear a chorus of "Thank you five!"

hehe! We had some overexcited stage managers, so here's how it went:
'thank you 60!'
'Thank you 50' (and three seconds later) 'Thank you "shut up about the time, Chris" '
'Thank you 30'
'thank you house!'
'thank you 15'
'thank you five- five? FIVE!? ack, I get my makeup next'
'thank you, 3minutesandthehouseisset'
goood times-Ali

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/11/08 01:35a few inside jokes: "spider monkey" inserted randomly into lines ex: "A spider monkey in sheeps clothing.." or "where's my phoooooone" (must be said nasaly)...
about set construction: "Force it to fit, paint it to match."
during any rehearsal verging on riske: "Family Show!" (depends on the show i guess)
during any rehearsal verging on awful: " it's called ACTING, you should try it sometime..."Chris

Me and one of my friends like to confuse our stage manager and say "Thank you (what ever time was called)" and then immediately follow that with "Thank you 24" "Thanks 13" "Thank you 63" etc.
One of my friends coined a "good luck" substitute for techies, "Rock the props".
Also "Merde" is common backstage at our theatre. Hehe. That sounds funny....
Got a show tonight so I'm pretty frazzled! Is that the smell of sulfur? Oh its a stage effect!
Release your davits and jump!
-I've had a vision! -Of disaster? -No, of azaleas!
There is a curious paradox that no one can explain: who understands the secrets of the reaping of the grain? Who understands why spring is born out of winter's laboring pain, or why we all must die a bit before we grow again? I do not know the secret, although I know it's true. I hurt them for that reason. And myself a little bit too.

after doing bye bye birdie and the director's name was ed: "we love ya, ed!" (ed sullivan reference)
when people start griping and complaining TOO much: "don't have your period, i am not your pad".
now, most of the time i've spent doing theater, i've been on stage. recently, i worked backstage for the first time doing makeup and as a prop master. I learned alot, but i spent most of the time saying: "f&*$#@g actors!!!" I'm twitching with excitement over the next year in theater! currently cast in: Annie (adult chorus, got called back for Hannigan though!) upcoming auditions: evil dead the musical (february) upcoming production roles: ass. directing footloose (august) and directing a broadway christmas carol
