Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/05/13 21:45 I'm torn between "Break a leg" and "Techies do it in the dark" lmao, the first is just so old and the second my department says too often...

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/05/13 23:32 More of a costume one... but we had to keep telling eachother "Ten feet from a moving train," meaning don't be so picky about small details no one will be able to see on a moving actor who's on a stage, removed from the audience. This saying is accompanied by a vigourous shaking back and forth of the garment and "Can you see the mistake? CAN YOU? I didn't think so. Move on." Kathleen Sera
Current Shows: West Side Story - Wardrobe Supervisor
Upcoming Auditions: Cruiseship Pinafore - Hebe or Josephine, Crazy For You - Irene Roth

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/05/14 11:05 I like this one (from a bumper sticker)

The Voices in my Head sing showtunes

okay - not really a popular quote but fits all musical theatre people.

We quote "Wicked" a lot in our household...lines like, "We Can't All Come & Go by Bubble", or saying "confusifying" or any of the other cute sayings that came out of that show.

I practically know the whole show word for word.
Favorite Shows: Wicked, Hairspray, A Chorus Line & Spamalot
Dream Roles: Ado Annie/Oklahoma, Galinda/Wicked
In production: Ti Moune in Once On this Island Jr

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/05/14 20:37 Yours is one of mine. But I also like "We're Thespians. Wanna watch?" And this isn't theatre but I think its humorous. One of the choirs I'm in at school is a very select girls choir. We're called Expressions. Well our T-shirts this year say on the back "Guys Wsh They Could Hit This" and then there's a music note. So the shirt can be taken in two VERY different ways. Kylie

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/05/14 22:07 Haha, those are great!

My drama club at school ordered shirts (that UNFORTUNATELY were lost by the company that made them - those slackers!) that said "Thespians Do It Onstage", which has become a quite common slogan!

I love reading these!

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/05/14 22:41 I just love "Thespians do it on stage". I've even got a bumper sticker that says it!(though I don't have a car...)

I'm also pretty partial to "There's no business like show business!"
The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/05/14 22:48 Our drama club shirts said "Save the drama for your mama...[back of shirt]...and leave the acting to us!"

A little cheesy, but hey, that's drama club.

I guess you just love my suggestions then, eh?

And Faith, I know what you mean! Drama club is always unbearably corny, but I guess that's why we love it! (By the way - I love that saying!)

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/05/15 03:18 those are all great, but i'd have to say my personal fave is

"Acting: it's just a stage I'm going through"

i used to have three differnt shirts that said that at one point in time, but i grew out of all of them...pretty long stage eh?

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/06/12 19:12 I have a new one! I thought of it when I looked down - I'm wearing a shirt that says this. It's not laugh out loud funny; you have to be a theater kid to get it. I got a few confused looks, but mostly A LOT of laughs today when I wore it. Here it is:

"I can't... I have rehearsal."

PAHAHAHA. I love it!

Re:What's your favorite cliche theater saying? - 2007/06/12 21:25 Hmm...well, you sure can't beat "There's no business like show business." I personally love "There's no room for modesty in the theatre." In my last production my cast thought "Break a leg" was too cliche and harsh so we opted for "Bruise a knee cap!" HAHAHA
