idk what to call this!! - 2006/12/01 03:34 i know my next auditon probably won't be for a long while, but i've got a little problem with my voice. i see high school productions, which are very very good, and all the people speak so smoothely, and for some reason, i cant. i don't have any lisps or obvious speech problems, but when i read from a script, i just talk kind of funny, like i pronounce the word like i've only said it once. if only you could hear me. but i don't know if it's because i don't talk very loud very much, or talk much at all, cuz my friends are being weird...anyway lol. is there a way to solve it? if anyone knows what i mean?? *´¨)

Re:idk what to call this!! - 2006/12/01 23:33 The only suggestion I can give is to just preactice reading things aloud. Graba book frm a shelf, open it to a rndom page and start reading. One actress honed her cold reading skills by doing this with a phone book.

I don't know about everyone but I know I change my voice when I'm playing a character, just slightly. When I'm talking as myself, I always think my voice sound so weird to myself. But I have never worried about this onstage because it doesn't sound like me. After watching y friends perform in acting class, I realized that they also do this. One of my friends makes her voice sound more little girlish when she speaks. It's not annoying, but it's not her normal speaking voice.
Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:idk what to call this!! - 2006/12/02 01:19 when i act, i'm forced to make myself louder because the directors at my school think louder is better, which is dumb. i make sure I'm not yelling unless necessary. but i'm not used to talking very loud, i'm a pretty shy person, i'm working on not being so locked up. *´¨)
