Hairspray the Movie - 2007/04/13 16:48 So who is excited to see the movie? I am totally because I recently saw the tour version in my town with some best friends and we loved it. And now, 7 days after my birthday, it will be in theatres and I'm totally going with all my best friends to see it! I mean, seriously, look at the cast, it is AMAZING! I can't wait and I wanna know what you think!

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/04/13 21:43 Really? I don't particularly care for the cast. But I'm seeing it the day it comes out. Heh. Current Role: Fantine-Les Miserables (opens: May 26-29)

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/04/13 23:45 Ehhh, I have to say that I'm pretty skeptical about some of the casting choices, but I'm trying to be as open minded as possible. I'm sure I'll see it, probably not on the day it comes out, but definitely within the first few weeks.

And just curious, was it the non-Equity tour you saw? If so, I saw it about a month ago, and was pretty under whelmed, although I did really enjoy the girl playing Tracy. But perhaps it was an off show, as we all know, does happen!

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/04/14 21:10 no, i believe it was the Broadway Theatre League tour and the only reason it stopped in my town was because one of the Corney Collins Show guys was an alumni from the nearby school. Catherine

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/04/28 23:47 I'm actually pretty displeased with the casting, mostly because I can't stand Zach Efron. Also, they cast Amanda Bynes and Penny, which I wouldn't really mind, except Penny is BY FAR my favorite role in Hairspray.

WHY DON'T THEY JUST USE THE BROADWAY CAST?????
Seriously. That would just make the world better.

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/04/30 01:08 I'm actually really curious to hear Zac Effron sing. In HSM almost all of his solo parts were dubbed over becuase of the range...so I really don't know what his real voice sounds like. I'm glad that they cast a new actress at Tracy, I don't think I could have handled someone from the Disney channel...and apparantly Amanda Bynes "got her start" in the business singing, so I want to see if that's actually true. I'm skeptical about John Travolta...but he can sing and dance, so hey, why not? *Stephanie*

Favorite roles:
Petey Fisk in Greater Tuna
The Cat in The Hat in Seussical
Dainty June in Gypsy

Next Audition...High School Musical

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/04/30 09:54 I've never seen Hairspray....I've heard a few of the songs, but that's about it. Is it customary for her mom to be played by a man?? I watched the trailer and I was like WHA! lol

I'm afraid this will turn faddish. ick.

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/06/15 22:59 I love the musical.

BUT, the casting decisions, and song cuts are making me VERY worried.

This doesn't mean though, that I won't be in the dead center of the audience at the midnight showing!

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/06/16 22:35 I actually like the cast. It's good to see John Travolta be in a movie musical again, even if he is playing a woman. And I'm very anxious to hear what Amanda Bynes sounds like. I only wish they had put Mamma I'm A Big Girl Now in the movie. It's my favorite song from the musical! Name: Stefani

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/06/16 22:41 I cannot STAND zach efron. or however you spell it. He makes me so annoyed. But I still can't wait to see the movie. If it's bad, though, more than a few people will be angry. =] Maria

I know I'll be very ticked if the movie sucks. Hopefully it will be totally cool though

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/06/19 03:38 I can't believe I didn't see this thread before!

When I found out about it and saw the trailer on broadwayworld.com, I had to stifle an "OhMyGod!" since I was in a library.

Re:Hairspray the Movie - 2007/06/19 17:10 I'm excited to see this movie for two reasons

1.) Because Hairspray by its self is a great musical and as long as they stay true to the script, nothing should go horribly wrong.

2.) I keep holding out hope that this cast will pull it all together and do justice to the musical. Yes, I hate Zac, I'm not fond of Amanda, and I'm raising a brow at Queen Latifa but that doesn't mean I'm going to brand the movie BAD just because they're in it. They could surprise you and I'm hoping they will!
