Please give me hope - 2006/11/28 23:07 Tomorrow's my audition for Beauty and the Beast and I'm so nervous. This is a part I've wanted since I was in diapers, wearing my Belle dress while watching Beauty and the Beast until I wore out the poor tape. I've been praticing my song(Home) since September, and I'm ready for the cold-reads.

But last Saturday I lost my voice. It came back on Sunday, but my throat has been sore since then, despite the number of bags full of Hall's Fruit Breezers I've had and the amount of tea I drink for it. And my biggest competion for this part is a senior who has a beautiful voice and was Cinderella last year(her first and only lead). Thankfully my school is not a senior lead only policy. We had a freshman play the Witch last year, and another senior was Cinderella's mother.

Yeah I'm worried. Please just give me hope right now that I can get that part.

Re:Please give me hope - 2006/11/28 23:44 Girl, you'll be fine. I know the pressure you're under. By the way, Belle is a roll I'd kill to have. My story is very similar to yours, what with the dress and wearing out the tape.

Keep drinking your tea and chug lots of water before the audition. If you know the song and are ready for the reads, there's nothing more that you can do. Just walk in, be confident, and do your best. Most importantly, SELL THE SONG. Have a character. Portray it. Be someone else. Have lots of energy, no matter what type of song.

You'll do your best and there's nothing more. If you don't get the roll, you're not meant to have it--yet. There will be so many more opportunities throughout your life for this and many other dream rolls. Who knows? We all might be seeing you as Belle on Broadway in six years.

Good luck, darlin', and let us know how it goes!!

Re:Please give me hope - 2006/11/29 00:02 You can do it! Don't psyche yourself out. Remember two things:
1. You're doing this because you want to have fun.
2. The director and the other casting people WANT you to succeed.

I would go off the Halls Fruit Breezers and buy Ricola cranberry flavored cough drops. I find them really helpful. You can get them at any trader joe's.

Also, you might want to try buying and drinking some Emergen-C and Airbourne. It'll pump vitamins into your system that will help you to feel well.

Knock em dead girl!!

Re:Please give me hope - 2006/11/29 00:23 haha, kris... you crack me up...

shelby, try to relax b/c you don't want to store tension in your neck and throat and make your throat hurt more. you will be fine. try to do as little talking as possible between now and the audition. i have put you on strict strict vocal rest. you can tell (well, write it) to your teachers! LOL!!!

you'll be swell, you'll be great!! i will keep you and your voice in my thoughts.
They call me Jessica (like: They call me lady luck... lol)

Re:Please give me hope - 2006/11/29 01:00 don't worry, you can do it! I know i hate it when people tell me "it will be okay", because you know it's never true, but just do what everyone else said and you'll be good.
Beauty and the Beast is my FAVORITIST musical ever, and I dream to be Belle one day too, I think alot of people on this site do.
There is so much competition at my school too, so I just keep telling myself I can do it, i was born for that part, auditions are too easy, and think of someone to do well in the audition for.
as for your throat, drink water. LOTS OF IT. i wouldn't drink milk that much, cuz it clogs your throat, so skip milk for lunch and get water. put bottles of water in your locker and drink out of them when you stop by. drink out of every water fountain you pass.
YOU CAN DO IT!!

Re:Please give me hope - 2006/11/29 02:13 Very fun Kris! You made me break into a laughing/coughing fit for a minute before I made myself stop.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll keep myself calm and very quiet, no talking or singing. By the Way, Juliet, Trader Joe's doesn't exist in the middle of nowhere.

Re:Please give me hope - 2006/11/29 02:35 Don't worry Shelbs, they sell Ricolas pretty much anywhere. =]

I'm pulling for you hun! Everyone has given so much advice and it's covered pretty much all I want to say but...relax, take a deep breath, forget about the competition, and put it all out there. You only have one chance and you're going to rock it.

On the other hand, if the part doesn't work out, that's okay too. The show will probably come around and then you'll have more experience, especially with the show itself. If it doesn't happen, it wasn't meant to be.

as for your throat, drink water. LOTS OF IT. i wouldn't drink milk that much, cuz it clogs your throat, so skip milk for lunch and get water. put bottles of water in your locker and drink out of them when you stop by. drink out of every water fountain you pass.

I think everyone forgot the most important part of this advice...

PEE BEFORE YOU AUDITION.

Singing with a full bladder doesn't feel fabulous and you won't be distracted by you pain.

Break a leg!

Re:Please give me hope - 2006/11/29 03:58 Don't worry. I'm sure you'll do great. Just make sure you don't take cough drops to soon before you sing, because they numb your throat and you won't know if your hurting yourself. They make you feel better, but they can end up causing you more harm than good. You might sound great at your audition but in a week you might not be able to sing. No matter what, just remember to relax. Break A Leg!!!! -Georgia

Re:Please give me hope - 2006/11/30 00:01 Well, the singing part is over! I think I did very well, you could tell my voice wasn't in very good condition and they knew about my voice loss. I was one of the few people who acted out with their song according to them, and I'm one of the two people who own character shoes. My acting rocked!

I auditioned for everyone except Mrs. Potts(as great as a role she is, my other director types-cast me as the motherly type everytime and I hate it) and Madame(Lack her ability to sing like that). Other than that, I'll accept anyone, but I really want Belle. They are NOT considering me for Chip thank god. I'm a little too tall for him and we have littler kids.

Tommorrow's the cold-read, and I love this part! And we also get to sing No Matter What with random people we get paired with.

Did you know that Madame's name translates to Madame of the Big Mouth?
