Chris Bullock from And Then - by Carolynn Cooper (a cut-down) SERIOUS, DRAMATIC, CHILD MOLESTATION, HATRED no copy yet (I'll have to get a copy from my drama teacher tomorrow)
One two-minute jazz combo:
I'm taking the jazz routine I did last year ("Girlfight" by Christina Aguilaira) and modifying it to make it a solo. I don't know if I have the choreography ability or the time to completely choreograph my own routine. I don't take dance this year because I graduated high school so I don't have a teacher or anything right now.
One Song from Contemporary Musical Theatre
I am an alto and I get embarassed easily. I want to do something comedic but I couldn't find anything for my age (18), gender (female), and range (low D to maybe A - if I'm lucky) But I did come up with some options:
1) "Mama I'm a Big Girl Now" from Hairspray 2) "Once Upon a December" from Anastasia 3) "If You've Got It (Flaunt It)" from The Producors
If I do the 3rd option, I'm taking out the accent (though I have a bit of an automatic tone when I sing it because of the broken English) I transposed the hell out of everything, too.
Any suggestions?
NOTE: this is a video audition (eek!)

Re:triple-threat auditions...wide enough range? - 2006/11/23 21:22technically "Once Upon a December" isn't from a musical theatre show just a movie but i do love that song. however, if they really want something from musical theatre, don't do that one but if it doesn't really matter, i think you should do that one because from what you've said of your voice, it sounds like that one would fit best for you. Re:triple-threat auditions...wide enough range? - 2006/11/24 16:06Yes, they did ask us for something from musical theatre specifically. I assumed that Anastasia was also a live musical...darnit.

Number three is really quite overdone, so I'd suggest another song. Number one is also very popular at the moment, and it's always best to shy away from really well known songs. Realistically, I'd choose the second one, but as it has been pointed out, it's not technically from a musical. My suggestion would be to contact the organization for which you are auditioning and ask if this option would be satisfactory.
If not, I'd choose your first option. The publication of The Producers in an incredibly successful show and musical makes all of its songs better known.
Best of luck! I know video auditions can be scary! Let us know how it goes!

But since they asked for musical theatre songs specifically, I think you oughta pick #1. In my opinion, it's your best choice. Break A Leg!!-Georgia

Re:triple-threat auditions...wide enough range? - 2006/11/26 04:42if you are an alto, and the part you're auditioning for is pretty dramatic, i would choose I Dreamed A Dream from Les Mis. i know les mis is overdone, but i think that song would work!....but i don't know if it's contemporary, if not, im sorry!*´¨) ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•´ Annie

Re:triple-threat auditions...wide enough range? - 2006/11/28 04:28I ended up chosing Nowadays from Chicago. I know Chicago is overdone, like pretty much every song and show I like, but it sounds the best on me and that's what's most important.
I want to improve my knowledge of musicals but I don't live where they are performed (I'm eight hours North of Toronto). I download them and try renting them but only the most popular musicals are taped and/or available on DVD/VHS.

If you want to expand your knowledge, PBS had a great series a while back called "Broadway: The American Musical" and you can get it on DVD either through amazon.com or (maybe) your local library. Also, broadway.com has some great clips of shows. If you google any show you can find so much info on the net too. Listening to soundtracks in s great way to get to know a show too.
As far as the audition goes, break a leg!!Is that the smell of sulfur? Oh its a stage effect!

There is a curious paradox that no one can explain: who understands the secrets of the reaping of the grain? Who understands why spring is born out of winter's laboring pain, or why we all must die a bit before we grow again? I do not know the secret, although I know it's true. I hurt them for that reason. And myself a little bit too.

That was such an amazing series! I really learned a lot about the beginnings of Broadway, it was so interesting!----------Emily----------
