Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/02/15 23:43Hey all, just thought I'd post a fun topic. So, who in professional musical theatre do you idolize and look up to? Who is it that you draw inspiration from and aspire to follow in their footsteps? (They can be living or not.) Personally, I LOVE Idina Menzel. I actually saw her live in "Wicked" in London in November and OMG she was just amazing!! That role (Elphaba) is also my dream role. And I only just recently saw her in "Rent" (the movie version) and that made me love her even more. So, who do you love?

But my idol who's footsteps I want to follow in are Sutton Foster. She's not big, but she's going to be and has won a Tony! I just love her voice and acting. She's astonishing. The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/02/16 21:30Kristin Chenoweth, totally. Cheno is amazingly trained and is every kind of threat. She's got the opera voice, but can sing the theatre standards. She's adorable and tiny and is hillarious.
(Mind you, this is a girl who knows little of theatre beyond modern actors!)Shelby Jr. Moderator

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/02/17 16:56I have so many broadway idols! There are so many I look up to for different reasons...Bernadette Peters, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Sutton Foster...Jennifer Holiday when she sings "And I Am Telling You" is unbelievable (I will never sound or look anything like her, ever, but I still look up to her anyway )

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/02/17 18:24OMIGOSH, I was seriously about to make a topic like this...weird So obviously, you can probably tell who mine is (look at the quote in my signature). (he's not my gender...oh well) But he is an angel of music. He's got a wide range, and he can hold notes forever, and he can sing loud and soft and still sound amazing. And he gives more than 100% in every role and every show he's done, even if it risks his health (i.e. Woman in White, he sweat too much under the fat suit in a 3 hr show; POTO, a stomach hernia from lifting SB a million times) And he loves kids (president of the Sick Chuildren's Fund in UK) And even at the age of 65, he still sounds as great as he was 20 years ago. (go on youtube and look up O'Holy Night - Michael Crawford. Yeah, it's a christmas song, but it's recent, and the best version of that song. )
Sorry for rambling!! If I had to choose a female, probably Shirly Jones.*´¨) ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•´ Annie
upcoming auditions: The Pajama Game, Seussical currently: The Sound of Music (Nun Chorus)
