42nd Street Audition is finally here... - 2006/11/16 23:25 ...and thanks to the Dames at Sea issues, I have no audition song. Here's the skinny. I'm an alto trying out for Dorothy specifically but any part, really. Peggy's out because of politics, plus I'm not a soprano.

I really want a song that shows off my lower range, sticking to the normal audition song issues (not on B'way, etc.). I could sing "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" from Grease, since that's my general backup song, as well as "I Can Hear the Bells" from Hairspray. I know it's a high school audition and the song choice doesn't have to be perfect (at least 2 or 3 people sang "On My Own" last year -- it was painful).

I'm in the process of rescanning the "Shows" page but if anyone can beat me to it, I'll be forever grateful!!

Re:42nd Street Audition is finally here... - 2006/11/17 05:52 To show off your low range- "Why Can't you Behave" from Kiss me Kate can be very nice, if you can find it in a low key. Between the two you mentioned, I think that "There are Worse Things" would be better- Hairspray might be a little too contemporary.

Good Luck on your audition!

Re:42nd Street Audition is finally here... - 2006/11/19 21:14 Thanks for the help so far guys!

I was searching the data base and was looking at some songs from Babes In Arms, Anything Goes, The Boys From Syracuse, etc. Anyone have a favorite for altos from those? So far, Anything Goes is looking like a front runner. I don't have any music from any of the shows yet. Which would be the best?

Re:42nd Street Audition is finally here... - 2006/11/21 14:39 There's a really pretty song from State Fair that actually kind of fits dorothy brock's style, and it's called "It might as well be spring." it's pretty low, but there are high notes in it. Current Show: Coppelia (Swanhilda's friend)
Shows in the Last Year:
The Nutcracker(Spanish Chocolate, The Prissy Doll)
Little Shop of Horrors (Ronnette), Ragtime (Evelyn Nesbit), Urinetown (Little Sally),
Schoolhouse Rock Live (Dori),
