DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/01/17 00:09 In over 20 years of performing, I would expect to remember some shows better than others, but I have found that it isn't necessarily the shows that I've done most recently that I remember best.

The other day while in the car I switched to the On Broadway channel and heard the instrumental dance section in the middle of "The Farmer & The Cowman" from Oklahoma. Even though I was a dancer in that show about 13 years ago, I realized that I could recall EVERY DANCE STEP in that sequence as I heard the music.

So, my question is, do you remember certain shows better than others, and what makes those shows stand out in your memory over the others?

Re:DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/01/17 19:36 I definitely remember certain shows better than others. Usually it has to do with how big of a part I had and how much fun I had doing them. If it was a show i was in just cause I could be, then I don't really remember it well at all but if it was fun i remember it really well. Oh, how long ago I did it also has a big impact. -Georgia

Re:DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/01/17 22:38 I can still remember the dance steps to my first dance scene in my first show.

I don't really know what makes me remember some shows better than others. But I think it's the level of involement and dedication I put into a show that makes it more memorable for me.
To go into acting is like asking for admission to an insane asylum. Anyone may apply, but only the certifiably insane are admitted.

Re:DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/01/17 23:48 Everytime I hear a song from Oliver!, even the happiest ones, I always feel sad. I just miss being in that show and singing those songs. It was the best time I had all my school year, the rest was....very miserable!! my friends just stopped caring. but then i won the drawing contest for the logo, and people noticed me, and i made my first friend that year(the Dodger, lol). Then my old friends cared again, and I made some other new ones. I guess that's really what made it so memorable. I still remember every word and lyric and step. *´¨)

Re:DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/01/18 00:08 Haha...I've never done a musical theater show, but I've done a lot of skating shows, and I really do have to agree with people that the level of involvement makes it more memorable...my last three have been the ones I remember because I was really involved with them..last year I remember three of the skaters were seniors, so they were leaving...it was really sad because they had always been the most important ones since the time that the rest of us were 9...I remember us crying because we didn't want the closing night to end.

Re:DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/01/18 18:19 Back in the day...

...with which I mean in middle school...

...which was, in fact, a Wednesday, for all the Dane Cook fans...

...I used to know my shows front and back for years. We did Bye Bye Birdie, then Kiss Me Kate in two years. I remember during KMK rehersals looking around the stage and remembering all of the blocking for Bye Bye Birdie so well, that I think I could have been a part of the show, then and there, without any rehersal, and do very well. I know that was the busiest show I've ever been a part of. (I had five different character roles!) I also knew the female lead's blocking, lines, and songs because I was on stage so much.

Memories also come down to your cast. If you're with people you love, you'll remember many more backstage moments.

Re:DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/01/18 23:08 Definently, it depends on if there were any signifigant memories on those shows.

Re:DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/03/01 01:16 Let's see...if I start counting at high school, I performed for 15 years before I "retired."

Whenever I hear a musical I've done, all I can really remember is my part, whether it is the harmony line I sang in the chorus, or my songs and dance numbers. Even with the two long-running shows I did on Broadway, I sometimes forget lyrics that I didn't actually sing. I guess we weren't really paying attention once we had the show learned.

Oddly, the show I remember the most (every lyric and dance step) is the first theme park show I did. I hated that show, and we did it six times a day all summer long!

When I look back on shows that I've done, what I remember most are the people I met and the good times we had off stage. I still have friendships from my earliest days as a performer, and those will outlast any memories of the shows themselves.

Re:DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/03/12 21:25 My most memorable show was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. However I still remember the dance I had to do for my audition for Seussical a couple years ago which was the show that I met all of my friends that were in Joseph also. So I think it may just be the people from the shows that make you remember some shows better then others. Kylie

Re:DQ: 1/16/07 - Memories - 2007/03/16 14:34 Oh, Les Mis, Heaven bless thee. I played Thenardier in Les Mis in a production company that has literally changed my life. There were so many memorable moments, but the thing that happened that I will take with me to the grave and further. I spent an entire summer away from home, performing with other actors my age who were so passionate about what they did that they literally became my family. We worked so hard, and spent so much time together that when the summer was finally over, it broke everyone's hearts. The last performance, people had been breaking down and sobbing backstage. I had managed to keep myself relatively composed, but it was becoming increasingly difficult as I saw everyone with tears running down their faces even before the show was over. During intermission, our assistant director came down and told us that during the last scene, when the entire cast came out to sing "Do you hear the people Sing?" for the very last time, to look up at the tech booth. When we did, Our director and assistant director were holding up a huge sign that said "I LOVE YOU ALL". Right that instant, everyone started crying their eyes out again. We all broke down and cried our way through the last notes of the show. It was so powerful, the audience was sobbing too. When at last we had taken our final bows and the lights went out, I collapsed. My legs would no longer support me. I layed there on that stage I love, cried and thanked God for the incredible expirirence. I was so exhausted and spent, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, but it just felt so good. Every time I think of the show or hear the last song, it brings tears to my eyes. Sean
