Re:i love theater, but i hate.... - 2007/08/27 12:17I wish that company did. It's ridiculous. But they only do one show a year, usually. They're very....spur-of-the-moment.Psalm 42:8

Re:i love theater, but i hate.... - 2007/09/09 08:36The politics this year are going to be weird. I think seniority plays a part in who gets what roles, and I'm a senior. The director has never been nice to me- except this summer. And I went up to him after the play meeting and he was like, "Rachel!" all happy, and I was like, "Um... hi?" So... I don't know what this means. But he has enough favorites to fill this cast, and I'm not one of them. It'll be interesting to see what happens.Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:i love theater, but i hate.... - 2007/09/09 16:44I can't stand it when someone who's a lead refuses to hang out with or talk to anyone who isn't a lead. There's a girl at one of my summer theatre companies who actually thinks that ensemble members are there to serve her. It's crazy!
The girl who played Jo in "Little Women" at my school last year was the same way towards most people in the show, especially underclassmen. She was only nice to two people: John Brooke (her boyfriend) and Marmee (her best friend). It was so annoying sitting there listening to her cuss Beth out and then go onstage and be all sweet and stuff. (She hated the girl who ended up playing Beth. Our original Beth was one of her friends, but she broke her leg and had to be replace a couple weeks into rehearsals. She couldn't stand the replacement.) Rehearsing 'The Most Amazing Thing' was horrible because I was supposed to be over the top with a lot of my motions and things, and she'd move to where she was in my way on purpose in the middle of spins, then stop everything to yell at me for hitting her. Everyone was so glad when she graduated. She wouldn't have been cast if it weren't for the fact that she did well at the part and her parents were huge donors to the school.
People like that need to get over themselves. Seriously. This isn't a golf tournament, being loud is more than acceptable!

Re:i love theater, but i hate.... - 2007/09/09 18:08I'm an underclassmen, and seniority plays a big part of theater politics at school. I've been with my community theatre company for years, so tha'll be a weird change. But I need to get my foot in the door to my school theater because they do awesome musicals that the whole town attends.-Ali

Re:i love theater, but i hate.... - 2007/09/14 12:34at my little theatre there is this one family that dominates the musical theatre portion of things. the grandfather directs, the mother either acts or co-directs, and the daughter gets ALL the good parts. the most annoying thing was that they had the granddaughter "audition" for Anne of Green Gables even though everyone already knew she was as good as cast as Anne. it was so frustrating! she is good and a pretty descent person but it makes me so angrey that her mother hands her everything on a silver platter. it made me glad that when we did Little Women last spring it was not a musical so that family wasn't involved. and guess what? for the first time i actually got a part!

Re:i love theater, but i hate.... - 2007/09/14 16:35^There's only been one time that I've gotten into the school play that our director has cast it himself. All the other times, he's had help, and I think his help makes him cast me.
Our school play cast list went up on Wednesday. I thought I did really well with the monologue, something I never feel, but it was the same as always- his three favorites got the leads, and THEN he cast the rest of us. Who am I? No, not Jean Valjean. I am Woman With Dog. It's a walk on.Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:i love theater, but i hate.... - 2008/01/11 03:58This is kinda of an old subject but here goes... I have a long list of things i hate: -Stage moms- when they suck up to the director and encourages their talentless daughter to flirt with ur crush (long shory) -Politics (duh) -Favoritism (if they can't act and can't sing DON'T give them the lead role) -rejection (it happens to everyone) - People who purposely try to put u down because they are jealous
Unfortunately, you have to suck it up (that was embrassing i forgot to put up sorry), deal with it, and keep on trying because if u REALLY love theatre u won't give up or let anything in the way!

Re:i love theater, but i hate.... - 2008/01/11 09:35I hate actors that think the are the "bee's-knees" even though they are not attractive and or talented. I also hate directors who pick these people for important roles and dote on them.Upcoming: US Performing Arts Camps Currently: Henrietta (Honk Jr.!) Nessarose (MdN's Wicked) Enjolras (ENG)/Eponine (FREN) (Les Miz Online Cast Recording) Past: Godspell/Mamma Mia Soloist (Broadway Babies) Mrs. Johnson (Bye Bye Birdie)

Coming from a favorite, anyone who is happy with a role that they were given because the director likes them doesn't actually care about theatre. If I find out that someone gave me a role simply because my parents donate a lot of money to the company or because they just like me I turn it down. If they truly favored a person then they should make them work for roles instead of making them think that they don't have to work for a role.

Re:i love theater, but i hate.... - 2008/01/12 01:57i hate people who quote show lyrics in lieu of wisdom or humor. not that show tunes or lines aren't worth quoting, but people choose the ones that are dramatic but make neither literal nor figurative sense when taken out of context. that doesn't show an understanding or love of theater, it just shows an ability to memorize lines.Chris

As much as I don't like when little kids do this, you do have to take into consideration that if they're young, they're not going to have as much self-control (here I'm talking about, like, 5 year olds... however, if they're 10 and older, they should). What's worse is when adults do this!Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.
