Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/07/11 23:22 ok........ i think i might as well list all my idols. hehe (and why)

michael crawford (amazing in every way, and still singing at 65!)
terrence mann (a classic, though he sounds mucho better live)
robert cuccioli (my favorite jekyll/hyde, he can actually live thru the demanding show, amazing voice)
michael gruber (his voice makes me melt, and we're both cincinatians!!)
barbra streisand (classic. amazing. anything else?)
harry groener (what i think of as 'the broadway performer' since CFY)
shirley jones (oldie but a goodie, many broadway-movie classics)
idina menzel, kristin chenoweth (both very inspirational since Wicked)
bernadette peters (just plain amazing. and for an old age!!)
and of course jacob brent

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/07/12 08:21 Lea Salonga and Kristin Chenoweth. Both have amazing voices, though I think I should stop listening to them, or else I'll get tired of them! I haven't yet found a real mezzo idol yet (Lea is more of a soprano, I think) because I don't think I've seen many shows where there's been a good mezzo lead.

As for guys, I have no idea. I'm not very good at judging mens' singing, so I can hardly have any male musical theatre idols.

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/07/12 16:16 Sutton all the way, man.

I totally admire most everybody on broadway. But her voice is incredible. Her dancing pushes me to improve myself. And from her videos on broadway.com, she seems like my kind of person. I know I shouldn't judge anything on that. But I guess I am. haha

I'm so excited about Young Frakenstein, we're going to try and get tickets!!

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/09/26 01:21 1. Idina: Because she's an awesome actress, and has a good voice. (not the BEST singer though) But most of all her modest down- to earth personality!!!
2. Kristin Chenoweth: She's adorable and talented!!!
3. Lea Michele: I think she's an amazing actress at such a young age, and her voice is beautiful!
4.Lea Salonga: I'm asian so I'm proud that we have a very talented filipina on broadway!
5. Sutton Foster: Her voice and acting is also wonderful

Daphne Rubin-Vega (don't kill me).

I love her! I think this list is seriously lacking some Anthony Rapp (I think I saw one person maybe). Love, love, love him!

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/09/29 14:15 Have to agree about the Emmy Rossum thing. She had the innocence, but Sarah is the only Christine for me. And Michael is the only Phantom for me.

ANYWAY, how could I post on here without mentioning TIM CURRY (I finally found a good icon of him)!

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/10/12 14:17 I'm a big fan of Douglas Sills. First off, the guy was like a day away from becoming a lawyer, but decided to audition for Scarlet Pimpernell on a whim, got the part, and quickly became one of the most versatile actors on Broadway. If you've seen a bootleg of Little Shop, you know what I'm talking about. He's a terrific example of how type casting only affects those who let it. Plus, he has a myspace page! Sean

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/10/13 03:14 I love Lea Salonga, Ruthie Henshall, and Micheal Ball. The 10th Anneversity Concert of Les Miz makes me so happy.

Also, after seeing Grease on Broadway this summer, I have found a new respect for Jenny Powers. She was incredibly fabulous as Rizzo, which is my dream role.
--Ashley--
Current Production: "High School Musical" (Ms. Darbus)
Upcoming Auditions: "The Children's Hour"(Auditioning for Mary or Martha), "On The Razzle", "The Wizard Of Oz", "Blood Brothers", "Hamlet"(Auditioning for Ophelia!!!!!)
Dream Roles: Rizzo "Grease", Fantine "Les Miserables", Ms. Lovett "Sweeney Todd", Gwendolen "The Importance of Being Ernest" , Ophelia "Hamlet", Cherie "Bus Stop", Mama Rose "Gypsy",

2. Idina Menzel - She is also pretty much one of the most amazing actresses of all times. She's so powerful!

3. Julie Andrews - Who else could start so many big roles?

4. Barbara Streissand - Just got to love the big powerful voice!

Re:Who is your musical theatre idol? - 2007/11/20 23:56 1. Raul Esparza- He was amazing in Company. I'm still a little bitter about the Tony...
2. Donna Murphy- She's absolutely amazing. I saw her in Follies and she was just....words cannot describe. She was also the only part of Lovemusik that I really enjoyed.
3. Marc Kudisch- I recently saw him in The Glorious Ones.
4. Michael Cerveris- He was fantastic in Sweeney Todd...
5. Brian Stokes Mitchell- He has an absolutely amazing voice...and he's such a sweetheart..
6. Bernadette Peters- Do I really need to explain this one?
7. Victoria Clark- Yet again, I saw her in Follies and she was phenominal.

And....in terms of composers...definitely Sondheim....

-Ruthie Henshaw (is my idol! wheee!)
-Christiane Noll (Jekyll+Hyde)
-Colm Wilkinson (has an extremely powerful voice)

-Micheal Ball (*faints in an extremely fangirl-ish way*)
-Ali

Currently:
-Sheila; Boys Next Door (postshow depression mode)
-acceptance to acting ensemble
-Bye Bye Birdie (audition- didn't get a callback)
