Re:2 shows in 1 day... - 2008/03/02 10:45My biggest tip is, though you might be tempted, do NOT eat a ton of food in between shows! Most of the shows I've done have performed twice on a weekend day, and normally, I'm ravenous after the first show. But I've learned that eating a lot of food before another show is not a good idea. Two winters ago, when i did Les Mis, a few of my friends/castmates and I went tothis Chinese/Japanese buffet thing, and I ate a normal sized meal, and most of them had platefuls of sushi and dessert. They didn't feel too great later on.
Also, to prevent you being ravenous after show #1, see if you can bring pretzels into the dressing room to eat. Of course, if you're Dorothy (congrats, btw!), you may not have a lot of down time, but you can eat them during intermission. They're good for you and they also won't damage costumes.
I know some people also sleep between shows. I'm not a big fan of sleeping in public (I tend to ramble), but I've heard it helps a lot of people get re-energized.Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:2 shows in 1 day... - 2008/03/02 11:34I did Oz last summer, and played The Wizard. I will grant you, you will be on stage far longer than I was, but if you are anything like me, the adrenaline will get you through. I like doing two shows in one day. You do the mantinee, hang out the the cast, clown around, put your make-up back on and do another show. The woman who played our wicked witch had this green cakey make-up on her face, neck and ears and didn't take it off in between shows.
Congrats, Dorothy! You will be wonderful.

Re:2 shows in 1 day... - 2008/03/02 11:44Honestly, I always take a little nap in between shows. Just a little one, an long enough away from the shows to where I can rehydrate my voice, warm up again, (Physically, Vocally, and Mentally) and get ready for the shows again.
Greeting "Fans" is a load of fun. I've done this for a couple of shows and especially when kids are involved it's amazing.
I was the cow in "Beanstalk!: The musical" and spent an afternoon attempting to sell random things for charity. I had so many little kids run over yelling and giving me hugs saying, "MOO COW!" It was so adorable.
I'm sure you will have a blast.Auditioning For- Bye Bye Birdie (Hoping for Kim for Ursula)

Two shows in one day, yea don't talk unless you have to in between shows. Drink lots and lots of ice cold water to keep your body temperature down and your vocal cords moisturized.
Break a leg! Hopefully we'll see some production photos.Name: Bruce Current Production: None. Upcoming Auditions:
The Butler Did It Singing (Chandler)

Re:2 shows in 1 day... - 2008/03/05 12:26I just finished a run of La Cage aux Folles with two shows on saturdays (and I was in a major dancing role) obviously, no partying friday nights, have a good breakfast, and eat a sensible meal between shows (not too heavy/starchy, but you will need some kind of fuel). the second show will probably be easier/ better for you, with the first show being a good warm up. oh yeah and any stretching or warm ups you do for the matinee, repeat for the night show. don't be tempted to skip them because you've already warmed up.Chris

Re:2 shows in 1 day... - 2008/03/05 14:35I did 2 shows in one day for Romeo and Juliet. One was a school Matinee so the call time was 8 am. NOT FUN then I had an eye doctor appointment the show that night and the cast party. It is really tiring but you should do fine. Just remember to eat and DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!!!

Re:2 shows in 1 day... - 2008/03/05 15:06Inbetween shows have a snack, because you don't want to eat too much food and get cramps, also mucus buildup in your throat so no dairy: cheese, chocolate, etc. Take a little nap but make sure you have plenty of time in between your nap and your next show so you are awake on stage and warmed up!!! hope this helps! -Laura
Favorite Musical: PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!!!!! As for more "happy" musicals i like BATB, Music Man, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Singin' in the rain!!!

Re:2 shows in 1 day... - 2008/03/06 21:12You won't have any trouble. Just don't eat heavy between shows, but do eat. Eat a good Breakfast and Lunch before the shows starts. But, eat healthy, no junk food. No sugar foods or drinks (including no diet soda). Tea is good to have backstage as it sooths the voice. If your voice is tired, try not to use it too much that day except for the shows and Q&A's. This is why good vocal training comes in handy. If you have good vocal technique, your voice should be good for both shows. If you're the type who can nap, it can help. Chances are you won't though. Try to rest and not be tempted to hang out with all your friends too much between shows since you are the lead. Start eating healthy now. The closer you get to the performance, the harder you all will work. That can make you in danger of catching something. Nothing worse than a virus going around a cast. Be prepared before hand by getting plenty of sleep and eating healthy now!

Re:2 shows in 1 day... - 2008/03/06 21:26j'adore focus vitamin water (and every other kind). It doesn't coat my throat and is delicious at any temperature as well as pretty filling without slowing you down.
Make sure you take a little 'me time' inbetween shows just to relax, even listen to your iPod and read a book in the costume shop. and stay loose and warm, with your body as well as your voice!

Re:2 shows in 1 day... - 2008/03/10 09:18Ice cold water is bad for your voice right before you sing. It makes your vocal chords contract. Lukewarm or room temperature is technically best for your voice.Favorite Shows: Spring Awakening, Avenue Q, Hairspray, Assassins, Parade Dream Role: Melchior or Moritz/Spring Awakening Current Role: Bishop/Comberferre in Les Miserables Upcoming Auditions: Busch Gardens, Thoroughly Modern Millie, All Shook Up, VCU (Classical)
