South Pacific! - 2008/02/29 14:24
Auditions for South Pacific are in about 3 weeks (actually, less!) and I just found out today. And, apparently, we're supposed to come "prepared to dance." South Pacific doesn't seem like a huge dancing show (the most I've seen is stuff I could definitely learn in the month we'd be given for rehearsals!), but I'm still at a disadvantage because I am NOT someone who picks up on dance moves quickly. In fact, I get really confused unless I practice one-on-one with someone.
So what I want to know is if I should email the director and ask how great of a disadvantage that puts me at? Or would that be unprofessional? I think I'm a good singer (though it'd be nice if SP's music weren't so low in my tessitura, but oh well) and an a relatively good actor, but I'm afraid they're going to put just as much weight on the dance auditions.
Also, what kind of dancing should I expect? From what I've seen on YouTube, the "dancing" is hardly involved and very simple (but again, that's if I have someone teaching me one-on-one).
Lastly, if anyone has a good uptempo song to recommend, I'd appreciate it! I was thinking "The Simple Joys of Maidenhood" from Camelot, but should I pick a song with a higher range? I'm not sure how high the chorus goes, but I don't think it's very high...
