Into The Woods-Little Red help - 2008/02/18 14:15 Hey ya'll! I have auditions for ITW next week and am shooting for Little Red Riding Hood. The want me to sing I Know Things Now and this will also double as my acting audition. I was wondering opinions on how I should come across singing-wise. Normal ,nasal in good taste,or something else? Any advice is appreciated! I Rent a Wicked apartment on Avenue Q! (Unfortunatly, it's haunted by a Phantom)

Re:Into The Woods-Little Red help - 2008/02/18 15:09 I advice you to play it in your own way. I'm sure they will get a lot of cookie cutter renditions. Don't go too nasal, as it can really upstage the song. Decide if you see Red as more innocent or sarcastic or worldly. Then try to project that. How would you like to play her? Anissa

Re:Into The Woods-Little Red help - 2008/02/19 11:20 Also, remember that she IS just a little girl! So I would suggest trying to fit the singing style to that, as well. (I.E. don't sing opera-esque, as one girl did for an ITW audition I was at ) Micah---

Re:Into The Woods-Little Red help - 2008/02/19 13:09 I agree that you should try to make it your own, but remember that Little Red is that little girl who thinks she knows everything. Also, definitely (as someone above me said) try to sing the song like a young girl. Like for me if I sang that I'd probably work to not use much vibrato at all, etc. Break a leg!!!

Re:Into The Woods-Little Red help - 2008/02/19 20:46 thanks ya'll! It turns out the director doesn't want nasal at all so and encourages me to make it my own just like everyone advised me above. I definatley feel better about it! I Rent a Wicked apartment on Avenue Q! (Unfortunatly, it's haunted by a Phantom)

Re:Into The Woods-Little Red help - 2008/02/20 01:14 I think the best thing to do to help with interpretation is to write out the lyrics and then read them as if you were reading a monologue. Act what she's talking about, and if you can keep that in the back of your head, your interpretation can be much more natural.
Break a leg!

Re:Into The Woods-Little Red help - 2008/02/21 20:30 Hello!
Former Little Red here!

Little Red can be interpreted a number of ways, there is innocent, a brat, dumb, and annoying.
Make it your own!!!

My interpretation:
I did mine freakishly innocent and naive, because that is what I am most believable as. I kind of got the idea from reading the original fairy tale and reading that she was "adored by the whole village". So I played her as a girl who is used to being patted on the head all her life and told how wonderful she is. She ALWAYS followed what her mother has told her to do until one day, she meets a wolf who tells her to break her mother's rules. This scares her and excites her because she gets the adrenaline from being a rebel for once in her life. A little different from everyone else, but HOPEFULLY not to different that it was totally wrong.

My double did a snobby brat and did a good interpretation of the character too.
Try not to copy Danielle Ferland's wonderful interpretation or you'll just be a copy.
But I agree with what the person said above that you have to remember she IS a little girl.

For I know things now:
This is a wonderful song to act to. Mostly in the beginning it's confusion, Little Red had trusted this wolf and he had betrayed her. During the song she is thinking things out and trying to sort out what just happened. When she says "nice is different than good" she means that doing something that felt "nice" doesn't exactly mean she's doing the right thing. By the end of the song, she has learned her lesson.

That's how I saw the character. But remember, you have a chance to make this AMAZING character your own.

Also, HAVE FUN!!!! Little Red is a very exciting and fun part! So at the audition, have fun with the character.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
I hope you get the part, and tell us the results

Re:Into The Woods-Little Red help - 2008/02/29 22:59 Sorry I wasn't here to help in time. *crosses fingers for you*

I was Little Red last spring, and I got so close to our Jack. (That kind of happens when you're one of two teenagers in an adult production. The adults were all really close already, so we really got close.) Into the Woods is such a fun show. Little Red can be a lot of fun; it's fun giving the "What big eyes you have!" scene from your childhood a new twist...
This isn't a golf tournament, being loud is more than acceptable!

Re:Into The Woods-Little Red help - 2008/03/01 14:47 Yeah my best friend got Jack, (welll at least I think because he was the only person there for it at callbacks today....) so that'd be a lot fun if I got the part. I think they're emailing the cast list sometime today or tomarrow at the latest... I Rent a Wicked apartment on Avenue Q! (Unfortunatly, it's haunted by a Phantom)
