Hardwork pays off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 2008/01/24 23:03 Well, today i had rehearsals for my youth community theatre company's production of "Oklahoma!", anyways the girl playing Ado Annie wasn't there so the director asked who wanted to understudy the role for the rehearsal. (i know all of Ado Annie's lines and have been working hard on the part!) So i said that i would do it! Then went off to the side to wait for my cue where one of the leads said i could use his script, i said no thank you because i already knew all the lines. Everyone looked really shocked and said "i don't even know all my lines!" So i went on and did my scene with Laurey (i didn't do the solo though, even though i know it) Then everyone clapped and the director said she was very impressed because the REAL Ado Annie didn't even know all her lines! So then i did a scene with Will, and later both people playing Laurey and Will said they were impressed and i made them look bad because they didn't know their lines! lol!! I was soooooooooo happy!!!! -Laura

Favorite Musical: PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!!!!! As for more "happy" musicals i like BATB and Music Man (and lots of others, that i can't think of right now!)

Next production: R&H Cinderella?

Re:Hardwork pays off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 2008/02/29 01:18 Today i got to do Ado Annie's part again! I even got to do her solo!!!!! The acting i thought was pretty good. The singing was ok, i am recovering from a cold. I also got to do Ado Annie's dance with Will in the Dream Ballet, that wasn't very good, because a) i am not the best at dancing to begin with and b) i didn't really know the steps, because i have only seen the dance done a couple times. Anyways the director wasn't there, so the assistant director was incharge. The cool part was i didn't even have to volunteer, he was just like, "You can do Ado Annie's role right?" and i of course said yes!So if some thing does happen, i think i would probley be the first pick for the understudy!!! -Laura

Re:Hardwork pays off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 2008/03/14 16:20 that is soooo cool! The company will probably think very highly of you come the next auditions. I love u/s in rehearsals, it's a great time to get acting pointers and not have much pressure on you.

You're off book for a part that isn't entirely yours while everyone else isn't? I'm impressed! You should come to my town and be in shows, people seem to have difficulties with learning lines lol

The Nutcracker(Spanish Chocolate, The Prissy Doll)
Little Shop of Horrors (Ronnette), Ragtime (Evelyn Nesbit), Urinetown (Little Sally),

Re:Hardwork pays off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 2008/03/18 17:54 Today during our run though of the show, i got to understudy the role of Gertie! A couple girls and i had to do the laugh and the director picked me! I was really suprised she picked me because i have understudied the role of Ado Annie 2 times already, i thought maybe she would want other people to get a chance to understudy a lead/supporting role. So i went backstage and memorized her lines (as fast as i could) so i wouldn't have to go on with a script in my hand and i luckily didn't forget any lines on stage! So now i have 2 roles completely memorized!

Oh, and after rehearsals the director said, "understudies, wonderful job as usual!"

Re:Hardwork pays off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 2008/03/28 12:44 First, that must have felt wonderful. Having people clap for you in the house during a show is one thing, but having your fellow actors clap for you during a rehearsal is (I think) about as good as it gets.

I agree with clingtowords: Hopefully, the director will say, "Hey that kid has some game! I will cast HER in those meat-y roles next time".

As far as the REAL Ado Annie showing up and being steamed because you know her lines? You did what was best for the show. If she has a problem with it, maybe she should show up for rehearsals more often. It might even make her work harder knowing there is another "big gun" banging at the door!

Re:Hardwork pays off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 2008/03/28 14:03 Luckily the real Ado Annie is pretty nice, so i don't think she would be mad at me for learning her lines!

and besides the director requested that the chorus pick a lead role to memorize and work on.
