Re:Little Help Here? - 2008/01/31 01:47 Honestly, if you're weak in the upper body, get a personal trainer. I've done a bit of swordplay for the stage and 5 pounds get a whole lot heavier with the added momentum of swinging it around. Briana

Re:Little Help Here? - 2008/01/31 08:52 The director showed us the sort of exersize we should be doing. Upper arms. Also I am going to do some cardio so I can run around like I need to.

Re:Little Help Here? - 2008/01/31 21:47 As everyone else said, I'd recommend just being familiar with the part, and making sure you can transform into the character when needed. Also, make sure to look at the other parts too, because (I'm not saying you won't get the witch but you never know...) the director might see you as another character altogether.
I know I had my heart set on being Jo March in Little Women, and I got Amy. It was one of the best shows I've ever been in, and playing Amy was soo much fun. Keep your options open, your fingers crossed, and just have fun.

Break a leg!
Current Show: Spitfire Grill
Last Show: Laramie Project
Next Show: Peter Pan

You sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve.

Re:Little Help Here? - 2008/01/31 21:48 Pilates!

(I don't know if that's an upper body workout, but it works out your core!)

I'm doing it to get in shape for Peter Pan tryouts. I want to be Peter soooo bad...

Re:Little Help Here? - 2008/02/01 01:43 In the first show I was ever in, I beat out another girl who looked more of the part, and was a better actor than I (trust me. she was) and she had a better english accent than mine. well, not better, but her accent was a lot more like the people who were the parents. (the show was a sequel to the last year's show, but the parents had kids in the time between shows)

Pretty much the only reason I got the part was because I knew the play backwards and forwards (I read it about 15 times before the audition). I even knew it better than the director! She told me after the run of the show that she chose me ONLY because I was so determined, and she said that she had never regretted the decision. Yay!

So In other words, if you get the scripts, KNOW THE PLAY! It could be the determining factor between getting the part or not.

Hope you get the part!

Re:1 HOUR LEFT - 2008/02/26 18:14 It seems like you might be getting nervous, so...

don't freak out!!!! Maybe go over the script once more, practice. You know you're prepared, so don't let it get to you!!

Re:1 HOUR LEFT - 2008/02/27 14:53 I have the second day of auditions in a little while and I still haven't decided what scene I'm reading. I had one in mind but I think I have to audition for an animal today . . . . . maybe the Fox???

Re:1 HOUR LEFT - 2008/02/28 15:43 One thing about memorizing a scene- still use the script if you can. It tends to backfire if you memorize a scene for an audition and then decide not to use the script. If you're allowed to have it, you might as well. It especially helps because sometimes directors say, "Take it from that line," and I know that I, personally, can't find my place if I don't have the script. Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Currently In: Nothing
